Handheld Laptop build with Mechanical Keyboard and VR display
« on: Fri, 09 September 2016, 16:04:25 »
Hey there, first time posting here on Geekhack. Wanted to share this here because without the many helpful geekhack threads on hand wiring a keyboard this would have been much harder to finish. It's not quite done, still need to add a speaker, camera and maybe add a nice little piezoelectric speaker to the keyboard for some awesome 1 bit sounds.

That latte dev board looks like a fun project board. I like all the details, definitely looks like a lot of work :)

I almost want to attempt this myself, but I'm broke right now, so I probably shouldn't  :))

small question, why did you buy a bunch of enablers when you are not using them? :)

Welcome to Geekhack!

That's fantastic!  I like the look of a hand-wired keyboard - reminds me of the keyboard circuit diagrams I used to look at back in the day.

Also it would probably take me longer to make a render of something like that than it took you to build the whole thing :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
