"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

"A, B and C walked into a scoop" doesn't sound right.

"A, B and C walked into a bar" does.

"A, B and C walked into a nipple" is a completely different genre of story.

The bars have it.

A bar broken up into two small dots.
I read somewhere that if you have carpal-tunnel syndrome then you wouldn't be able to distinguish the two dots as being separate.

Edit: I found a note saying that I had heard it in an episode of Dr Oz.

Scoops feel like you have tow fingers that are slightly too short ;)

Three was a time when group buys didn't include bars. Dark times.

The worst offender is gateron: the use scoops and bars. In the same cap. How sad.

I know people joke about it..

But a few years back, this was an honest discussion where there were some that were of the very stringent belief that GMK should only be scoops...and that offering FJ with bars was a waste not used by many...and it would be a waste...even though most of the time the sets offer plenty of extras that many people will also not use.

Thankfully bars seems to be offered as some of the extra keys in the group buys people are doing for GMK...which was always the right decision...far more than say, offering ISO or 75% or 1800 as part of the included keys...

Serious question: is it possible to feel scoops or deep dishes accurately with fingertips?  So far I've only dealt with bars/numpad nipples as a touch typist.

Yes...it takes a bit of getting used to if you haven't used them before...at first it feels like something is both missing and gripping your index fingers at the same time...(Smooth on the finger tips, something gripping the edges).

I find bars are much easier to find...

Just bars for now. Is no one else experiecing extra clack when bottoming out cherry (enjoyPBT) scooped + bars homing keys, the keycap hitting the switch housing or something.  Entirely vanilla south-facing cherry switches without any leds. Really noticeable with silenced switches when pressing upper part of the keycap.

Cherry and GMK keycaps are scooped and do not hit the switch top when bottoming out. That is only the fault of Gateron/EnjoyPBT.
I use Cherry-original thick PBT keycaps with Zealencio silencing clips and don't notice less key travel on the scooped keys.

It took me a while to get used to scoops, for the longest time I'd be typing sentences with gibberish if I removed/returned my hands from the home row.

Edit: have only used scoops with GMK.

I feel the same way. The bars seem so much easier to find that I never even bothered considering scoops until I came across this post.
