Tp4 also ate 3lbs of potatoes.. and 2.5lbs of assorted vegetables..

And the diet you mention is similar to keto in that it's most likely significantly less calories than the person typically eats in order to get themselves in that position. They both work for people. The common thread seems to be eat less. Whether you eat meats or only sugars. Eat less. I would be interested in a study where the person consumed 4000+cal on that diet and see where it went.
Although if you're talking about curing Type 1 diabetes, then Idk. That's beyond me. I would say however, if you have to eat like that forever then it's not a cure.

SUGAR is Involved in Diabetes, but it is NOT the cause..
Just around 2000, before China began its economic boom, the diabetes percentage was around 2%.
This is a population where much of the middle and lower end inhabitants ate 80%-95% of daily calories from RICE, which has the same glycemic index as Sugar.
Now, today, China is the Most diabetic nation on the planet, it has more diabetes / prediabetes patients than the entire population of the United states.
Current estimates put China at 11% diabetic 37% prediabetic, 48% total
WHICH, now match the diabetic statistics of Unite States.. which is 50% total
