Ah so even SP probably is booked that long I thought it was just GMK that took that long to process.

May I ask why the choice was massdrop? I don't mind them in particular but it will add a decent amount of time (having the poll go through, massdrop actually caring and working out the details) to an already long SP production queue. No chance originative/keyclack could run a GB for this through their sites?

To be honest, I don't trust Originative on running any SA set by now, especially on running a set having so many kits like the SA Mechanist, based on what they did with the SA Chronicler. Originative is surely a good choice for a GMK GB, yet they seem to be very inexperienced with SP GBs.

And among the three platforms you mentioned, massdrop almost always provides the best price and is more likely to hit higher moqs so as to unlock better price drops.

IMO massdrop is the best choice for SA Mechanist GB. But it is the wolfmark team who make the final decision. I'm just eagerly waiting for the GB to come. ^_^

We hold the MD poll just to confirm how many people like this design and We have not decide which vendor to corperate with.
If possible, we would like to chose MD, as lithopedion said above, MD can collect more orders to lower the price for each user,
and easely to hit the MOQ for those rare kits users, such as Minila, Dvorak/Colemak, International.
I'm not hoping to see some kits being cut off because of a lack of orders.

Another problem is, from later last year until now, A lot of SA group-buy launched, and the Production capacity
of SP  is limiteded to swallow more orders, nonetheless, more group-buys are about to run continuously.
People love SA so much.

According to these, we may need to wait more time to run the group-buy.

btw i want to point out something.
if TKL kit already had R3 1.75u CTRL. it would be nice to remove R3 1.75u CTRL from Minila Kit (it would be a little bit cheaper for minila user :p)

I'm a fan. Best of luck!
Model M Industrial, SSK, Unicomp 104, Code TKL MX Green, FC660M MX Green + Clear + White + Grey, FC660C Topre 45g, MagicForce 68 USB and Bluetooth, Whitefox, some optical switch 65% Bluetooth split spacebar thing ... wait, I think I need an intervention. Too late, there’s a couple of new Model Fs on the way.
Too much SA is never enough.

Frozen Alphas on this layout look very cool!
I also have a Minila, but no SA keysets support this layout, I hope to make one kit to fullfill the users.
(SA Carbon has 3u spacebars, but it has not enough adapter keys)

They've been particularly slow and, at times, not-communicative with set designers for quite a while.

Yes, they seem very busy, maybe a lot of keycap designer ask for them to run groupbuys.
but, at least they should give me a reply, even if they don't like this design.....

I would say after 3 days it's ok to send a follow-up email to make sure you didn't get lost in the noise. You could also ask Brazzers about the process as Plumb just finished on MD.

You would hope so.  Yet we've had successfully run sets where communication dropped into nothing for months.  You may end up needing to follow up with them to ensure you don't get lost in mix.

While massdrop is nice as it allows more people to generally see that set there are other very successful vendors.  one that comes to my mind that has a lot of GB's under his belt and seems to handle them all well is jchan94 over at keyclack.com . I'd say if you don't here baclk from massdrop you speak with him.

Hi, everyone, MD gave me a reply today.
They think this is a good design, but due to the production blocks, they can not give me any promises on SA group-buy plan. As production situation become loose, maybe one day, they will contact me to launch a GB with them.........

Hahaha,,,,,,,I'm still not sure the possibility of doing it with them.

Yeah with the 1 year SA backlog, I'm not surprised they're holding off on any SA related sets right now.  Still, it was nice to see them give a reply.  I'd say if you want to continue the MassDrop route, contact them again at some point in the future.

Yes, I know that profile, and have gotten a 104 keyset to have a try.
As I know , they only have 104+WKL models, if users want to add more specs, the cost of modeling become even higher, especially the novelties are very high ,even higher than SP.

It seems that the Chinese makers really want to deal with higher volume and keep their costs minimized.  The kind of sets we're used to don't seem to currently be their strong point.

With high price and low production ability, SP can not fullfil all the Chinese market now.
so, some makers in China are trying to do some copy like SA profile, as I know at least more than 2 makers failed, their products are very poor and totally unusable.
Maxkey seems the best of them, its molds are better, products feel more smooth.
But the material and colors are hard to tell.
