Honestly, it is not attractive other than the ninja dart at novelties. Some icons should be a little simpler. The sheath is confused. It would be better to remove the sheath. The more classic idea is to cross two swords. The samurai usually wore several swords.

I just wanted to update on my personal stand regarding MD. I am done with that site. I ended up paying 80€ as importe fees for the Rama spinners that were 50usd a pop. and just before that 25€ on a 24usd Idea23 artisan keycap. I will unfortunately not join the GB if this is run on MD.

There's a nice proxy network in GBs lately. Perhaps it's something to consider.
My opensource projects: GH80-3000, TOAD, XMMX. Classified: stuff

Novelties Suggestions:

Japanese Dragon

Japanese Flag

TMNT

YinYang

Kabuto

ShiShi (Stone Lion Guardian)

Shuriken 1

Shuriken 2

TMNT

Cherry Blossom

  • The japanese warriors studies balance and zen mastery intensely, therefor I think the yin-yang would make an excellent contribution
  • The dragon would look pretty bad ass if it's possible to make such a complicated mold. Also a good match to keyforge Orochi
  • The flag is a must have in my humble opinion. Take note not to use the rising sun flag as it is basically the same as a swastika
  • Katana, Bo, Nunchuck, Sai and Shurikens? =TMNT!!!!
  • Kabuto in a more simple edition
  • Shurikens in a more simple edition
  • Shishi stone guardian would look pretty incredible with one of Keyforge's shishi's
  • Cherry Blossom for when you are feeling the softness of the Japanese spring

I really like this set but TMNT is not relating to it very well with the red color IMHO.

I am pretty sure I read the rules correctly, so I felt joining this contest would be unfair.

1) I was told it would be a popularity contest beforehand which means any gh or MD old-timer would already have their own fanbase that will likely support their set old or new. Also, since I knew about it beforehand, I felt it would be unfair to join as I would already have a head start even if I did design something new. Color selections can be quick, but having the right novelties could take time if people don't like it or want more.
2) I already had 3D renders and I was sure people joining wouldn't want to or be able to afford nice ones or the lines for render service providers would be congested in the given the short time span for the contest.
3) This IC has been going well-over a week, so many people already know about it.

Requires a specific template.

Rule says only one week to build hype.

This project is presented the old-fashioned way because I want REALLY want the coverage for other kits. Also, as far as feasibility goes, I am waiting for molds such as hiraganas, 1u shift key, and have to decide whether I should do anything to the hiragana kit, novelties, or add/remove anything. So, I think it would be wise to just wait a bit. Besides, it would be like telling me to start over or the coverage would clearly be an advantage, which is why the contest template needs to be strictly followed and also the novelty profiles or limit was not addressed. (e.g. how many R1, R2, R3, R4 novelties is feasible? (what if I made 20 that fits well with it?), do icon mods count as novelties?, are certain row profile keys for novelties easier to produce than another?, etc.).

PS: I already read everyone's old comments just didn't want this thread to notify everyone watching the thread for something unrelated to the next phase, but I felt I should answer this question to avoid rumors. There are some details I need to confirm before I even decide anything or attempt to make any changes and that requires some waiting time to get my questions answered when they are ready to talk to me.

Very nice colors, I'm down for this set.

However, like others mentioned as well, the design of the novelty keycap with the katana and sheath doesn't work very well imho. Even just centering the sheath in regards to the sword might help, just a single sword or a whole set of katana, wakizashi and tanto would probably look better too.

Overall, I'd love to see more novelties and symbolic keys, so that you could have a complete keycap set in a minimalist design without any Latin letters/English text at all.

Looks pretty decent as a whole. Would be nice to have better keyboard compatibility like in GMK Laser's base kit though. Especially for the 1u caps with legends for planck/preonic. I personally think GMK Laser's base kit is the best GMK base kit so far that can satisfy a large number of users without too many add-on kits.

Also, not a big fan of the novelties. Some of the caps seem a bit off balanced and it's overall a bit too cheesy imo.

So it's just the final bit of touchups and it should be ready to go!

Tend to agree. I don’t need the throwing stars, katanas, or shurikens. Prefer to class it up a bit.

Ok, considering all the fuzz with MD and seeing how well and fast zfrontier is handling their stuff, I am going to ask it one more time. Is it possible to run it through them instead of MD? They (zfrontier) proved that they can run a set with a **** ton of kits (can't remember the name but it was for a DSA kit not long ago), they are professionals, and I didn't pay import fees on my ocean dolce keyset (169$ kit), I got it in three days and didn't pay a dime for shipping. What more is there to want?

My last question was a real one... Why not run it through them?

The MD hate-train is tiresome. If you already asked for it and he said no, why do you think asking the same question again will change anything? I believe this is already in the que for MD and could potentially be next GMK set in line.

Because last time the answer was "nah, MD is ok and zfrontier lacks experience".

Except it's completely wrong. Tiresome or not, if there is a hate train it means there must be something wrong and zfrontier is far from lacking experience IMHO. They even ran the Time tkl GB. I'm asking again because I figured that since time passed, the answer might have changed.

It's not like I want to be a pain or something, I want the same as you, I want the kit to become a thing, that's all.

Edit: I have to admit that after a second read of my previous message, it seems way too passive aggressive. I was genuinely asking it his stance on it changed and if the reasons where still the same

Correlation != Causality.

The Massdrop hate also ignores the sales numbers. You can hate it all you want, but Massdrop consistently hits price points 2-3 levels cheaper than any other vendor.

Correlation != Causality.

This I can agree on, I have to admit I have a bias point of view on the question as 3 of my 4 past purchases have been meh, at best.

The Massdrop hate also ignores the sales numbers. You can hate it all you want, but Massdrop consistently hits price points 2-3 levels cheaper than any other vendor.

This is highly driven by where you live. I have had to pay 30€ (not USD, EUR) on a 26USD artisan from idea23. I've had to pay almost 50€ (again, EUR, not USD) during the last closet sale to get my keysets. I am under the impression that most, if not all, the people defending MD live in the USA, which excludes us, poor non-US citizens...
In this configuration, shipping and import fees included, I really challenge you to prove me that MD is less expensive than zFrontier.

I'm pretty much done arguing about this. If this set has to be done through MD to become something real, so be it, I won't join and wait for someone in Europe to be bored of it to get it.

But again, you live in the US and you guys (this is not directed to you nor is it a criticism, it's just an observation) tend to forget the States is not the entire world. My only "problem" is that I don't understand why another site, one that is not MD and that offers better pricing for the rest of the world whilst still offering the same pricing for you guys in the states, has to be dismissed. The fact that it will help it reach the highest moq (with the lowest price) is not true per say if the right link is shared here and on reddit/slack/discord/etc.

If this set doesn't happen, i will use my keys to carve the words "GMK MOQ, MURDERER OF DREAMS" on both cases and hang them on the streets outside GMK GmbH as a demonstration to them how the MOQ Regime is killing the dreams of diversity and innovation.

I'm on the hunt for an RF 91u, and would love to slap these alphas on it if full JIS is possible. Will buy a set either way though.

I plan to update the kits, but not anytime soon. I am not entirely sure what I want to do with it since I would need more information from MD on what's available to me.

I know MD is currently busy with other keycap sets, so I'll ask them for an update some time next year. I assume they have something planned by now.

Happy Holidays!
