Fixed all issues, did not include the bootloader flashing pins but I believe that is an outlier to actual necessity of the board. Ordered the new PCBs tonight as well.

Do you mean the Serial Peripheral Interface? That's not necessary unless you use ATMega32u4RC which comes without a bootloader but, as far as I know, they are not being produced anymore.

Yeah, for ISP/JTAG programming in case the bootloader gets corrupted or something. I'm using a regular 32u4-au so it'll come with one installed.

Excellent project, thank you for doing this.

Although, I'd be in only with LEDs added, and ideally a plate. I don't see myself resoldering everything just for changing the PCB and not having more "fun". :)

I believe leds will be added for the standard run.

Yeah I'd like to add LEDs once I get a new controller working with QMK, that's another side project of mine atm

Same with a full/half plate, I'd like to get something working with minimal cutting to the case itself

The standard plate that's been floating around does not require much cutting, and provides a pretty good solid reinforcement for the keyboard itself, it is possible to have three separate mini-plate, and thus require no modding at all to the G80 case, but I think that somewhat defeats the point of using a plate in the first place (reduce the 'cheapness' feel of the plastic G80 cases)

The difficult part will be fastening the plate to the case, i think. there's a few screw mounts in the top-middle of the case around 3/4 and backspace, but they won't provide super good support for areas far away from em.

A plate is held by the switches so no need to mount it, like many 60% keyboards.

Yeah that's the other option. Makes sense, I figure securing it to the actual case itself will provide more rigidity though.

Updated/fixed PCB protos have been ordered

Here's an IC form for the first run of "production" boards. These will hopefully run in a month or so, maybe Feb. Timeline depends on how things with the new controller go. Main purpose of this IC is to gauge interest in a thicker version (2.0mm instead of 1.6mm) for more stiffness and a black-on-red silk/mask Cartel Keyboards version, as opposed to the "standard" white-on-black.

Put one together and whipped up a quick firmware on kbfirmware.com... IT WORKS

I've noticed two of the indicator LED silkscreens are backwards, not a huge deal. And the solderable pads for a cable aren't labelled which I'll make a note of in the "user manual". I need to solder diodes and get the indicator LEDs in, but aside from me checking them it's fully working.

After looking at a few of the PCBs I don't recommend using ALLPCB for stuff like this. 4 of the 5 in the pack I opened were scratched to hell and back:

^ this is the one I built to test, and noticed these marks once I was soldering.

^ Did they try to fill it in with sharpie?

The original broken protos were done through EasyEDA, and have no scratches. I will likely be using them in the future.

I'm afraid some scratches are deep enough to cut the traces.
Never tried ALLPCB myself but I can vouch for EasyEDA's quality.

I'll have to check closer, but it looks like they're mainly in the mask.

I've used EasyEDA and PCBWay before - both have been solid. I'm somewhat partial to PCBWay because they can also do assembly, and the GB for these will feature boards fully assembled from the factory.

Since this is an interest check, and I'm interested, I urge to ask if there are plans for a european proxy, also, if it there will be any bare PCB for sale, I can do the soldering myself.

Mechboards has acted as a proxy for quite a few GBs recently, he is available on the MKUK Discord if you want to explore the option of having an EU based proxy for bulk shipment!

Hey - going to rework some stuff matrix wise to allow for in-switch and underglow LED. Stay tuned ;)

All but two are shipped. The European ones will be delayed, because they got held up in customs (somewhat expected). Shouldn't be long.

I'm interested in the GB when you finish the new design.

Also did you ever get the pictures you needed for the Dolch Pac LED layout?

186880-0

The LED's go on a separate PCB. So you just solder them into the standard 1800 LED holes.

Yep, thanks! Seems like the Dolch LEDs can just be wired to the PCB.

Not sure at this point, in the next few months is my best guess.

Update on the Euro orders: My contact moved from Great Britain during the transit of the package to him. It was supposed to reach him by when he moved, but was held in customs. It was released with the condition he'd have to pick it up, in person. Since he's in the Netherlands now, he cannot do that, so they will be returned to me. I'll ship them out to the Europeans as soon as I can once I have them.

Yep, thanks! Seems like the Dolch LEDs can just be wired to the PCB.

Got an ETA on approximately when the GB will go live? Really excited about this!

I'll ship them out to the Europeans as soon as I can once I have them.

do you have any updates on the EU orders? I guess they're making their slow way back from customs in the UK

I'm interested in the GB when you finish the new design.

Also did you ever get the pictures you needed for the Dolch Pac LED layout?

Yep, still on the way to me. Yesterday I asked if he was given a tracking number, waiting to see what they tell him.
