[IC] JTK YOLCH [GB MAY 1]
« on: Thu, 29 March 2018, 23:57:03 »
The render finally came in so i don't feel bad about starting a new IC for it

$95 @ MOQ 100
$85 @ MOQ 200
$80 @ MOQ 300
$75 @ MOQ 400

Removing things doesn't reduce price, adding things gets expensive quickly

Yes, I know people don't like the box backspace legend, but it's not worth the cost to change it

(148 keys)

Renders by Hineybush. Color isn't representative of final product. Final product will have text mods.

When are you thinking of running this?

I was thinking of opening it in early May, I want to avoid the current GMK set rush.

Normally JTK has production periods, but I've been informed that when we run our set determines the next one. So we can run it whenever.

standard for JTK, so doesn't cost extra

i'd prefer diamonds but JT's legend mold price for non 1u things is a little prohibitive, and especially since i'd need two sets of molds for 1.25 and 1u

but i have noted this and will ask about it

Any reason why would you choose this over GMK? Apart from the Legends how does the keycap feel compared to an expensive GMK Set?

Is this the continuation of dolch&gabbana which was GMK or is unrelated?

Anyway, interested, i would like accents tho: esc/enters
Also, any chance of this to become orange dolch?

i wanted so bad to roast this...but it looks good

two windows options is definitely decadent...however for anyone who remembers vista...the old one probably causes nightmares

10 gave us cortana so it would be nice to see that one stay and trade vista for some linux representation but i am sure it is not a deal breaker

good luck with your gb puddsy...looks like a hit

Considering it, but I think the USD is too weak right now. I did submit for a quote, though.

I guess JTK does not provide ISO support right?

Correct, they don't have ISO enter. One of the first things I asked about, since I wanted it for Red Riot

Interested. Do you have a pantone color of the yellow/gold that you're using?

JTK's naming standard for colors is "black, dark grey, yellow, etc." so, no. I think a custom yellow would be pretty excessive for this set.

Any reason why would you choose this over GMK? Apart from the Legends how does the keycap feel compared to an expensive GMK Set?

The legends should be fixed in the newest iteration of JTK sets, I'm planning on running this after Aqua ships (or after there are pictures of it) to be sure.

Is this the continuation of dolch&gabbana which was GMK or is unrelated?

Yolch was my coloway first, I ran the IC for a DCS version in April of last year. Technically it's an Ivan (maybe JD?) colorway, but he never ran it. This is unrelated to D&G, since that's not my set.

I like the idea of accent Esc/Enter, so I'll ask about that. Shouldn't cost too much, since there aren't any new molds involved.

If OCO didn't already have skidolcha, I would consider an orange dolch. I'm planning on doing red dolch (name pending) next.

Oh got it, honestly don't care who runs it and i'm definetely ok with JTK, especially now that they are trying to fix some legends.

i like it, but too much money

if either of my GBs go through, that money will be used for prototypes of a keyboard i'm working on, so i can't even buy skidolcha

red dolch (name pending) next.

Rolch  :D :D One issue with running non-GMK for such classic colorway. The dolch combination is quite unique and any variation that differs for the brown/grey combo might make it look weird. I think yellow dolch would look good.

The render finally came in so i don't feel bad about starting a new IC for it

Show Image

Pricing is looking to be around $90, but still finalizing

MOQ 100

Removing things doesn't reduce price, adding things gets expensive quickly

Yes, I know people don't like the box backspace legend, but it's not worth the cost to change it

(141 keys)

Currently the only vendor that's locked in is switchmod, I'm working on EU and CN proxies.

Yes.

like this and about the color. As I know, JTK could favourably calibrate colors using pantone colors or RGB values even with just real keycaps.

getting pricing, he doesn't really reply on weekends so hold tight until like monday, should be doable but totally depends on pricing

they can, but i don't really see a need for it and it's expensive

maybe for another project

like this and about the color. As I know, JTK could favourably calibrate colors using pantone colors or RGB values even with just real keycaps.

they can, but i don't really see a need for it and it's expensive

maybe for another project

I'd like to amend this post, I got an email from JTK this morning saying that, even though I thought the colors had been decided (since, you know, renders), that they can match any SP or GMK color (and a few other color rings).

I've decided to use SP colors. YCH for the legends and GE for the light grey. The black is JTK's stock black. This should be in line with other dolch sets. I'll let you know if there are any changes in this regard.

Awesome pricing, I think I'll probably have to get in on this. What is the most recent JTK GB? How are they progressing on fixing up their legends?

112344 in descending order top part

12344 for the bottom part
I always see cherry profile caps numbered like this and it leaves me scratching my head. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it actually BBCDEE from the bottom?

update on the accent keys: JTK says it's doable, but we'd have to get more than just those two keys since there are other legends in the mold. I asked about what other keys it would be. It would add what translates into $10 for the set, which might be a little too rich for my blood. I'll update again once they confirm what keys will be in the set.

Also, I confirmed pantones with them: The yellow will be 108C, and the grey will be 418C. The grey was a little hard to gauge, but I think that's about as close as I can get with pantones. If anyone has a pantone book and a dolch set, let me know.

I don't have exactly what you're looking for, but I do have a Sky Dolch and a Skidolcha set, and a ColorMunki Design spectrophotometer which can do color sampling.

hit me with that alpha color please

the legend color was easy, i just eydropper'd an SP color chip, but i was having trouble with the alpha color

the mod color will just be black, since that's what it is normally

Accent kit is a no go, the list of keys it would have to include doesn't make sense, and I think it would add too much costwise.

If I did it, it would have to be separate from the base set, which I don't really want to do.

that's also gonna be a no-go, i don't want to add costs for the legends

it would be about $5 a set, which puts us just a bit too close to $100 at base MOQ

if it sells over 200, i will do generic super keys (diamonds), though, since then i'll feel less weird about the price

JTK only takes pantone numbers, since I don't have a physical sample to send them.

My spectrometer generates RGB which can be converted to Pantone.

hit me with that alpha color please

the legend color was easy, i just eydropper'd an SP color chip, but i was having trouble with the alpha color

the mod color will just be black, since that's what it is normally

I'll sample them tonight.

I don't think dolch mods are traditionally black...

Dolch use n9, so same as skidata.

Or GX, if we reference SP codes. I think black would look good though

Looks good Puddsy, I'll hopefully be in for a set if this goes live! Love this colorway, it reminds me of my hometown colors. Kinda like the Pirates black, gold, & grey unis. :thumb:

they're not, but it's easier on the backend to just use black in this case

but i was incorrect in saying that dolch is fully black normally, yes

Hmm decisions, decisions... I really like Red Riot also, ideally I'd like to grab a set of both but we all know how well this hobby mixes with financial responsibilities, LOL! :)) If comes down to it I think I'll go Yolch over Red riot. Although since they are both looking to be JTK sets there is at least the possibility of me being able to cover both sets if they are run close together which is nice. Anyways great work on both & I look forward to definitely adding at least one of them to my collection! :thumb:

I'll sample them tonight.

I measure N9 (dark gray) as 63,65,67 which translates to Pantone 446C.
I measure CC (light gray) as 106,102,96 which translates (IMO) to Pantone 404C or 405C. It's not as close a match as N9 was. Given that this is supposed to be the "lighter" color, I'd suggest 404C.

These were both sampled off spacebars, so there shouldn't be any color contamination from the legend shot.

This is tempting ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The dark gray looks good. The light gray has a weird brown tone that doesn't look right to me.

Looking at Pantones online I see that the web site I used must not have been color true. Maybe Cool Gray 6 or 7 C?

Sorry I let you down m8. All my stuff is color calibrated which sometimes makes me lazy. I should've double checked the patch that sight was showing me against a Pantone sample.

the legends aren't quite right but here are some hineybush renders

Am I correct in assuming the colors aren't true to the Pantone I provided?

might be the lighting of the render, i just copied your post into discord when he asked for colors

The dark gray looks good. The light gray has a weird brown tone that doesn't look right to me.

i was having issues with sampling it as well, don't worry

it's a surprisingly weird color

This is tempting ...

i knew you'd like this one

I've been wanting a decent Dolsh/Yolch for a while, without paying the GMK premium.

I have a couple of Tai Hao sets, but, you know, Tai Hao.

Any thoughts on a black on yellow Enter and Esc?

Adds too much cost to the set because of how JTK does their molding. Weird batch thing. I've decided not to do it this time around.

i asked again today to see if i could do it with a custom mold for what may end up being a reduced cost, since i think this would be really good for this set

but i'm not optimistic, i think it might work out about the same

partly, i'm just not well versed in how they do things, so i'm trying to work with them to get more interesting things done

if yolch and RR do well, expect to see many more JTK GBs from me, i really like working with them so far

Have seen JTK's cases though? I think they are well worth the $5 TBH. Here is the trays my JTK Toxic kit came in.

I mean I get it if the trays were like Maxkey's, ePBT/Gateron's, or even GMK's. Although these things can be used for storing all kinds of stuff other than the caps. They remind of some tackle boxes that came packaged in with the last fishing backpack I got. They are nice, thick, & sturdy. I was actually kinda blown away by the packing compared to any other high quality key cap sets I got.

alright so i don't know if i said it anywhere, but this set and red riot** will both have jtk trays

someone asked me about it so i wasn't sure if i mentioned it

You forgot to mention that they can opt out of buying a tray to save $5

That's a really good deal.  I never use the trays anyway.  :thumb:

Have seen JTK's cases though? I think they are well worth the $5 TBH. Here is the trays my JTK Toxic kit came in.
(Attachment Link)

I mean I get it if the trays were like Maxkey's, ePBT/Gateron's, or even GMK's. Although these things can be used for storing all kinds of stuff other than the caps. They remind of some tackle boxes that came packaged in with the last fishing backpack I got. They are nice, thick, & sturdy. I was actually kinda blown away by the packing compared to any other high quality key cap sets I got.

Oh, those are nicer than I realized.  I thought they were just like the maxkey ones.  GMK are the worst.  Those damn tabs always screw up.

But these look nice for $5

also worth mentioning the ones for yolch/rr will be clear, not green like that

but yeah

Not yellow??

only if we sell 1000 sets

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Was supposed to get info on artisans today, but there's been a slight delay.

Once I have pics, I'll be able to tell you exactly what we've got.

I think you guys will love it.

Did the pantone colors ever get sorted out? Curious since this is now the closest set to what I'm looking for after the sudden change with Serika. I'm hoping to possibly mix in some other sets that I have, but I'd just like to know ahead of time if the colors will match close enough or not. :]

i've opted not to colormatch this set, since it'll bring the cost over 100 at the lowest MOQ, and will delay the set at least one month

i think JTK will send me color samples before final production, though, so it's not a major worry at this point

Is there any way to know what these colors will be in comparison to some kind of standard, then? I don't know much about JTK. But do they have, heck, even hex values or something for the colors they'll be using?

Hoping to get a sort of Dolch-Gabbana look but with the yellow you've got here. It's much more vibrant and appealing!

supposedly the JTK render (the one showing all the keys) is pretty much color accurate

it'll be a more vibrant yellow than D&G, since that's my preference over gold

i'll see if i can get pantones or hexes for their colors ahead of time

i can say that it won't be color accurate other dolch sets, the mods will be fully black as opposed to dark grey, so no mix/match

If the mods are supposed to be black, your JTK render is off. JTK's black is super black, see the JTK WoB run for reference.

Yeah, this was going to be my next question. So is the render (relatively) color-accurate for the other colors, the modifiers aside? Since they appear dark grey in it.

they told me it would be their standard black, but communicating with them is a little hard since their rep doesn't speak the greatest english

i sent an email yesterday asking for confirmation

it's possible we just have to wait until the samples show up, which isn't ideal in terms of timing, but seems like a good solution to me in terms of getting the colors right

Looking forward to seeing samples. Bummer I won't be able to mix some of the mods in with my N9 ergodox kit. That said, still very excited for this set. I may have to break out the key dyeing pot and put together something that matches .. or just pretend that I don't see the difference.
