So, after some messaging back and forth, a guy agreed to do a straight swap with me: My keycap set for his. Simple, right?
Of course, as often is the case, we live far from each other and can’t meet in person.
So, can you guys give me some advice on how to go about this? Do I ship my set first and then send him the delivery receipt, as a gesture of good faith (since I was the one who initiated the swap)?

Does the guy have any references with ebay? reddit? Gh? Can you tell whether this person is an active member of some type of community with some form of good standing? Are you prepared to lose your keycap set? 9 out of 10 people are all good. But some are lazy and may procrastinate sending their side of the trade.
Personally I would just send the item if I initiated the swap and send them the receipt as you said. But I would swing towards signature on delivery just for peace of mind.
In the end, there is always risk with item swaps via post but without using a third party to facilitate the trade I don't think there is much more that can be done.

Just pay each other via PayPal goods whatever you agree the sets are worth and ship to each other.
Lots of good info and other thread linked in the below post
