Out of all the beamsprings in my collection I would say the full size 3278 is the most usable and the 3278 mini RPQ has the best trade off for height, typing angle and mouse space. The full size 3278 can be set up to have a TKL nav cluster so it's very useful for business applications like spreadsheets and programming. If you have an adjustable desk and can hover type without the need for a wrist rest then I would consider a 3101 or 5251.

In Order:

1. IBM 3278/3279
2. IBM 3277 66 key
3. IBM 4978 (best layout potential)
4. IBM 3741/3742 Data Station (most ergonomic)
5. IBM 3101
6. IBM 5251
7. IBM Display Writer 6580

And what a collection it is! {Drool}

So I am wondering between the 3278 and 3278 Mini RPQ what the key differences are between the models.

personally I have not tried a 3278, but out of my 5251 and 4978 I prefer my 4978 for the layout on hand  its enormous, its a 122, looks fire , and  the fact that it is just something special that I can daily drive, because why not
