Title: It feels so good!!
Post by: lightsout714 on Wed, 17 April 2019, 16:16:59
After years of using store bought boards. I finally spent the cash on a metal case. Fairly standard for GH standards, but oh man does it feel so good to type on. The solidness under the keys (has to be a better way to say that) when typing is a joy. Plus it looks amazing. Doesn't have the style of some of the newer customs I am seeing but I prefer the "hunk of metal" look. When I told my wife and daughter to pick it up, they both said "whoa, but why?" lol, they just don't get it.
Tofu 65% with Gateron Browns. Looking forward not to a metal TKL and then probably a 65% tofu after that.

Finally you have come to the real side. Alu is just 200 times better then plastic.

Until it dents/scratches your desk and shocks the heck out of you.

Never had this happen before. Deskmat so no hitting desk and I've never had a keyboard shock me. I feel like I only hear that happening with whitefox/alts.

@OP Board looks great! Can't beat silver/grey and some beige caps.

Many people do not cover the desk or think about it until it happens.

As for the shocks, I've had it happen on my Filco/Vortex and discussed it with quite a few people who have had it happen on all sorts of keyboards, some not even aluminum.

Here is a thread with people discussing it:

and another

A mention of it here:

and here:

None of these had anything by me in them so I know there's been several others, these are just what I found with a quick search. It's a very common issue.

I had the shock problem only with my aluminium varmilo va68.

How would it sent the desk? Dropping it? It stays I'm place pretty well.

My desk is a junky fake wood Ikea slab that's beat up anyways.

Moving it around when cleaning and such.
It may or not be an issue, but it's something few pay attention to until it becomes a problem.

I have a glass desk and moving or even dropping a plastic keyboard even from a shelf above my monitors isn't a big deal, but drop my Filco from even just a few inches while wiping under it and my desk could shatter into many little pieces.

I just commented on that pic, probably on reddit. I really like that black on black Tofu. I have that keyset currently on an old QFR, but have been wanting to build a 60.

I think when I do I will get a black tofu. Looks clean.

Been looking at these for a while now. I got used to using an 1800 board but I'm missing the smaller form factor. I think the 65% size would be a good compromise. I like the look of the hotswap KBD65 kit a bit more though.
