Title: Free Keyset Renders at KeycapRenders.com
Post by: pngu on Sat, 20 April 2019, 06:47:32
Hi there! I made a tool that renders GMK sets and want to share it. Check out keycaprenders.com (https://keycaprenders.com/)!

The process is simple, you choose one of the available scenes, pick your colors, enter your email and hit the render button.

Example output:

Decided to make a GH thread for this to keep track of feedback, suggestions and bugs. All of that is very welcome!

Planned features:

List of known bugs:

The goal is to keep the service free to use and acquire the means of running it through donations and sponsorships. If you are interested in contributing to the server cost long-term in exchange for having your (company's) logo placed on the site, please get in touch with me.

Have a nice weekend!

Very nice!  Any plans to expand to other profiles down the road?

Edit: Sorry.  As LightningXI points out, it's in your OP.  I need to pay more attention to the details.

As per the above, I believe it is already planned.

Here is an idea for a future function: generate orthographic images of custom kits for use in polls & IC's.  No keyboard, no perspective.  Like the image on your website home page, except with user-defined contents/layouts.  Maybe use KLE code as the input to simplify this task for you and the users.

That's pretty damn amazing.  Is there a specific type of user you mainly made it for?   Or is it just so users can visualize their ideas?  That is powerful skillset you have dude.

This is fantastic. One recommendation - what about including popular/commonly used keysets as options? I understand that would be a lot of work to get the GMK/HEX codes depending on how many keysets added, but it would be easier for people who may not know the codes off the top of their heads.

It's probably better for users to pull colors from existing sources so KeycapRenders can focus on their main objective.  But maybe they could provide links to some sources?

For example:
   • there is a Google spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O37zVadXYkQFQwf4Of3-q6K9o-zq0jYxtPGG2pfz_wQ/edit?usp=drivesdk) of many keysets' custom colors and shared the link here. (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=100102.msg2746887#msg2746887)
   • The Keyboard Layout Editor has the color codes for GMK, SP, and WASD stock colors.

If anyone knows of other sources, please share.

Love this idea! Definitely along the lines of what k was thinking, labeling the colors would be ideal as well.

Although, this might lead to a TON of new ICs

How are you thinking to label the colors?

For stock colors in KLE, (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/) select a keycap, select a color swatch, and hover over any color to see the name the manufacturer gave it.  Click that color and its RGB hex code will be in the keycap's profile.

I think nasp is labeling custom colors pretty well too, no?

The point of this tool is to help people create new sets, not to make renders of existing ones, so adding predefined sets would make little sense as far as I'm concerned, sorry.

Yeah, I transferred the domain to another service and I have some trouble setting up the DNS records. It'll be back when I get an answer to my support ticket

Has this been addressed yet?  I'd really love to give this a try!
