In short about me:
German, living in the Netherlands. Completed an apprenticeship in IT some 15 years ago. I'm finishing my study of veterinary medicine at the moment.
During my apprenticeship I got hooked on mechanical keyboards and regretted it once to go back to rubber dome switches. Since then I've had several mechanical keyboards with blue Cherrys, which I'm not very fond of. After five years at least 10% of cherry blues either stick or become very scratchy, besides the general lack of tactility. This text is being typed with an Unicomp Ultra Classic, black with grey/white keycaps, which I'm also not very fond of. It was a step forward in the right direction, but I'm not really satisfied with the Ultra Classic. The Unicomp lacks build quality, the key feel is to stiff, the excessive hysteresis and the layout, the right windows key between the right AltGr and the spacebar does more harm than good. Each time I try to type one of these characters @ {[]} \ , I open the menu. Got used to it but now when I type these characters on a regular keyboard, the same problem occurs or I make a screenshot on my laptop :'(
So, I just ordered my first batch of Kailh BOX pink, which will replace the blue cherrys on my old DasKeyboard Ultimate. The choice of these switches is due to the great work on Youtube from @chyros. I'm looking forward to get my feet wet again with the soldering iron and hope the clicky tactility of the BOX pinks will finally be a step towards a comfortable typing and gaming experience.
One thing I should mention is that I'm a big proponent of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and hardware for that matter ;)
I've been a Linux user for about 12 years and ditched Windows for good around 2011. If it is not absolutely necessary I'll refrain from using proprietary software, especially Windows.
My distro of choice is Arch since 2013.
I'm looking forward to meet you guys!
