I find certain foods bring back nostalgia of times gone by, oftentimes reminding me of certain people, places, things or events from years ago.
Anyone experience that?

Sardines and Onions on Saltine Crackers
Fishing trip with my gramps, ~30 years ago.
I remember he would bring a whole onion and slice pieces off with his pocket knife.

Navel Oranges
These always remind me of my grandmother who passed many years ago.
She always ate them in her recliner while watching soap operas.

Deep Fried Croquettes.
These are delicious and addictive, Adults used to scare children off from eating them by saying things like, if you eat too many your wii will fall off.
They were lying of course, because adults ate them all the time behind the younger generation's backs.
A primary contributor of Heart disease and Diabetes in Asia.
The Budget Street versions had either nothing, or a bit of pork/glass noodle/cabbage/chives/onion/seaweed on the inside.
The EXPENSIVE versions had all that + Oyster

Beef stroganoff, sausages and sauerkraut, chicken wings, bowling alley nachos, tiny packages of movie theater twizzlers, chocolate milk, krave cereal, fudge poptarts, banana pudding, mangos, starfruit, fried catfish, blue gill, pizzahut pizza personal pan pizzas, roadside boiled peanuts, and peacock bass. Also naval oranges. My friend's dad randomly appeared with an 80's toyota truck bed full of freshly picked navals for some reason. I'd bet to help fund his thesis. That was a damn good summer for us youngsters though.

Plot,
He got the truck from the Cartel. Cover for drug running.

boiled peanuts
I remember my gramps would take me to a cousins farm when I was a kid and we'd get fresh peanuts out of the ground then take them home to cleanup and boil. Love me some boiled peanuts.
We also did the same thing with corn on the cob.

Oddly enough, at the time my folks were renting the house next door I was in a digging phase (probably on some anthropology/archeology kick) and found a few antique booze bottles from the prohibition era.
There were some rumors that the local springs nearby was a popular gangster hideout.. so there might have been some drug/booze running.. but well before he was born. sorry tp4

Hole-in-one egg like my mommy used to make. Basically toast pan fried with an egg in a center hole of the bread.

Dunkaroos.
Delicious snacks that i would ocassionally get in my school lunch as a special treat. They had cookies, complete with a frosting dip that came in white or choclate dip.
But now... they're gone :'( .
Rip Dunkaroos. I will always miss you as my favourite lunch treat D:

It's called Toad in the hole here in Vermont and it's delicious.
My nostalgia food is grilled cheese and it must be made with cheap ass Wonder Bread and the equally crap Kraft American cheese singles, the only decent ingredient is Cabot salted butter.
When I feel like fancifying it I use potato bread spread with garlic butter and the oldest sharp cheddar I can get.

My dad called that egg in a window. Which came from a tv show not sure which one.

Sunday dinner growing up was almost always roast beef (usually chuck) or roast chicken with potatoes and thick brown gravy.
These days I make braised brisket and I roast my chicken in a clay pot. The overall taste and effect is about the same, but they are more forgiving and less likely to dry out.

Drank the corner-store version, didn't have any label/ packaging, it was just plastic tube w/ the snap off, w/ different colors.
I liked the green one most..

Couldn't afford Kool-Aid? It's literally like $.79 a pack!
-
The corner store generics were a nickle a piece.
