I ordered a Satan GH60 board and assembled it all together. Had a lot of issues getting the firmware on it on my PC so I decided to try it on a Laptop I had laying around. The laptop recognized it as "ps2avrGB" if I played with the Mini USB side, jiggling it around a little bit (it seemed loose and wouldn't be detected at certain angles). I load up bootmapper and connect to the device, then upload a layout to it.
Okay so the keyboard works...well not on the main PC I really want it to work on, even when it's properly configured, it still says it doesn't recognize it. At least it works flawlessly on the laptops, except for that Mini USB being a little finicky. I play around with it on my PC, mess with the drivers on it using Zadig to try and find some way for it to get detected by Windows, and at some point, the device now shows up as "Unknown USB Device: Device Descriptor Request Failed)" on EVERY computer including the laptops it just worked flawlessly on.
I scoured this forum to try and find a way to fix it, uninstalled the driver for it and restarted my PC, that didn't do anything. I thought that maybe the USB plug itself was too loose or something so I soldered on another Mini USB to the PCB. I tried a few different Mini USB cables and no change. Apparently you can hold a certain key on the keyboard to enter bootloader mode but LCTRL, U, or anything else worked for me.
Kinda at a loss for what to do next with it. Can someone give some insight? :'(

Are you sure you need PS2AVRGB? Unless it's a b.fake or similar that's been misadvertised, the GH60 Satan has an ATMega32u4 and therefore uses TMK or QMK.
-
I'm assuming that since the device was first identified as ps2avrGB that it would fall under that category. Also, the instructions on the site I ordered from specified using Bootmapper. I was confused at first because I had your same train of thought but it seems to be ps2avrGB from what I can tell

I see. Could you link the listing please?

Sure, here's the listing: https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.6.2.65394c4ddLTsHM&orderId=101370688564023&productId=32799437588

Link just makes an error :/

Sorry, posted a bad link. This one should work!

I'm noticing now what you mean by if it's a b.fake or not, description of the item says the white board (the one I have) is b.face Mini USB. So i'm guessing it's a b.fake.

Yeah that's a b.fake, a weird hybrid copy of winkeyless.kr's b.face.
You can try following the instructions for the b.fake on the QMK configurator: https://config.qmk.fm/#/bfake/LAYOUT_60_ansi

I'll be sure to try this sunday. When the instructions say to put the device into "reset" mode, what key would that be? I've tried to put it into this mode but LCTRL, U, and any other keypress while plugging it in wouldn't really change the device name from "Unknown USB Device: Device Descriptor Request Failed". I also haven't installed any LEDs so I can't visually verify if it's in any kind of flashing mode.
-
Is there a physical reset button on the bottom of the pcb?
-
No, this board didn't have a physical reset switch on the back of the PCB. I've read threads that say there's a button combination for boards that don't have the physical switch but as far as I know, I haven't found that key combination.
-
Try FN + backspace. Fn should be either the 2nd or 3rd key in the right modifier cluster's bottom row.

Alright, I finally got the chance to try out this combination. Sadly, it didn't work and I went ahead and tried the entire bottom row just to make sure I wasn't pressing CTRL or ALT by mistake. Thanks for hanging in there with me, though. No idea how to proceed from there if I can't place the board in reset mode like your posted link's instructions says.

Make sure you're doing this while you're plugging in the keyboard.

Yep I held them both down while plugging in the keyboard. Still comes up as Unknown USB Device.
-
Is that the same as what happens when you plug it in normally?
-
Yep. "Device Descriptor Request Failed" regardless of if I plug it in while pressing Fn + Backspace.
-
So in device manager, it still shows as unknown device regardless of whether you plug it in holding fn + backspace or not?
You might have somehow damaged the bootloader to the point of needing an ISP to fix it. :/
-
I'm thinking so too. That seems to be the case. I think i'll chock this up as a lesson and get a new board to work with. Thanks so much for your assistance though.
-
No problem. The QMK Type-c underglow PCB from the same listing would be a fine option for a new board - I just bought one the other day :P
