I'd like to get my SO a Leopold 980C thats a silent 45g, and of course you can't get that factory because that would be too convenient.
Which would be better, getting the silenced version and replace the domes with the light BKE Topre Domes vs buying the non-silent 45g and modding with rings like the DESkeys rings from KBDFans?
I see there is a silent variable Realforce, and would be cheaper to replace just a few domes vs a whole Leopold board, but having two different brand of domes on the same board might be weird.

Don't know Leopolds but in most silent Topre boards the slider is a bit different (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45141.0) to make up for the travel reduction of the silencing rings. By buying a silent version of the Leopold you'd be getting the proper slider/ring combo and only need to swap domes to have what you want.

my FC660c silent is very nice. It's more quiet than my novatouch with desrings silencing rings installed. But I like the modded one better because I lubed the stabilizer wires, so those keys feel better. But the silent Leopold Topres are nice. I would feed happy to gift one to my SO

I just got my HHKB yesterday and I have a FC660C in the mail. What is the best way to silence the upstroke? My HHKB has a lot of 'ping' on the upstroke and would like to silence that so I just have the hollow thock that this board does so well.

I highly recommend deskeys silencing rings. Super easy to install and dampen well without reducing travel:

Long story short, you probably want to go with the #3

Have you lubed it yet? It can help, significantly, with sound. In my experience, silencing the spacebar is the hardest. I lube the stabs with superlube, Plase larger bumpons underneath it and add o-rings on the actual SB cap (you have to mess with them to get them to stay).
For the rest, best silencing method is lubing and using silent stems from a Type-S or the RF Purple silent sliders.

What lube do you use for Topre? I just got 204g0 from switchmod for my Tealios will this also work for Topre?

Thanks for the video link, what fantastic timing!

Is there a way to buy the silent sliders without buying a whole keyboard?

I got mine on Mech Market. They tend to go for anywhere between $100-$130 in my experience.

I used to use GHer's thick or thin. I think I have 3204 on mine right now. I am not sure about 205g0. I just got some of that myself and have only used it on MX so far. I am sure a thin amount would be ok. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
