Title: Troubleshoot help: IBM Model M '91 or PS/2 failing?(Solved)
Post by: Aliecake on Mon, 10 June 2019, 14:39:23
TLDR: How can I troubleshoot malfunctioning keyboard to see if it needs repair or PS/2 serial is failing on computer

Im an owner of a circa 1991 Model M PS/2 connection. Ive owned it for 17+ years and have never had a problem until today.

My CPU(about 3 years old) has a PS/2 serial port. I lost my PS/2 to usb adapter 10 or so years ago.

Keyboard was unresponsive this morning. After a restart, it worked again.
However, throughout the day computer beeps once then keyboard goes unresponsive again. I dont believe its losing power(most recent episode num lock light stayed on).

ONE time, computer beeped more than once (3 times? I didnt get an exact count) before going unresponsive. All other times its been 1 beep.

Anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot it to figure out if its my port or my keyboard? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Wanted to update instead of just deleting in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Pretty sure its my PS/2 serial port failing/shorting. Found my other model M and it did the same thing after about 30minutes.

Ordered a new active adapter.
