Hi Hi!
Looking to build a keeb for my friend's birthday. He hates RGB but loves the color green. I'd love to build him something custom in the $200-300 range. His birthday isn't until December but with the way group buys are going these days I figured I'd start the hunt now. Are there any good group buys going on at the moment that I can look into? Preferably not HHKB, Ortho, or Ergodox style layouts.

You can get him like a Tofu with led capable light PCB. Install green leds. If you want no lights, then perhaps get him a green keycap set.

Obviously this is fully built but you can buy all the pieces to it and the PCB you need. Then spend the rest of your money on a decent keycap set

Don't do a group buy for something you're counting on time, or even at all, they're completely unpredictable. Odds are you won't get completely screwed, the community seems to pull together to get things done but if things go bad it can take quite a long time to finally arrive.
My advice, look into some of the really nice off-the-shelf kits you can get from various places, or as I like to recommend, start with a Tex or Vortex case (green! (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1261)) then add a compatible keyboard, caps and programmable controller (if the keyboard can handle one). Not as exotic, but you can get parts if something goes wrong.

Depends on what layout he also prefers if we know that i think we can give you better advice. If it doesn't matter i think you should look for a 60% since there is a lot of off the shelf options available.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I like the Tofu idea. He prefers full size, but those are not nearly as easy to find

For keycaps, i suggest SA Nuclear data if you can get your hands on them
