I think the U.S. has a war boner and we are at the tipping point of something big. The chess pieces have been set in motion years ago and today there is conflict with Iran. It just seems like things have been ramping up far more than the usual saber-rattling.
Iran is no match and it all would be a disaster for so many innocent people. The real fight though seems to be with Russia and also China while other countries get caught in the middle of this clash of super powers and ideologies. I do not see this all going well. Look back to the Korean War. The U.S. could have continued the fight but that would have meant all out war with nukes against China and Russia. Fast forward to today we have even more powerful weapons and delivery systems yet the same rivalries exist. I think there are ***holes on all sides and no amount of military might can solve these long standing issues. Even if we could zap nukes from the space the defenseless superpower could just ransom the world with a super powerful nuclear device burrowed deep into the Earth that could destroy the planet from it's core. Do we just need to work on space travel and colonization as it seems like the engineering challenges would be far simpler than dealing with all these level 1 problems on Earth? I mean space travel sounds cool and buys the human species more time possibly but eventually we would just end up with galactic space wars but that would be hopefully a lot further into the future if we make it that long.

It's not likely, both parties possessing n00q_ular weapons has made conventional warfare unwinnable.
At worst, we have some sort of trade embargo.
Only a few n00qs in the atmosphere will take ANY nation back to the stone age in a matter of hours.
Our electrical grid/ system really is that fragile. It takes a whole country an entire year to produce 1x High Voltage grid power transformer. Assssuming that country is operating at PEAK capacity.
Try building even 1 transformer without existing capacity could take 5-10 years.
Not to mention all the foreign subcontracting that the US currently uses to build its own transformers (85% Foreign built). Oh, USA new n00q_ular reactors ? MADE IN CHINA
Talkn' bout these badboys. Even if n00qs don't get it, within the next ~100 years, we're way overdue for a major Solar Event, which will blow'um out.

A trade embargo is not the worst that can happen. Also if nothing happens right away there are still hundreds of billions being spent on weapons and geo-political posturing so back to Cold War tactics but tailored for this century. Also this is how we get terminators and robots fighting each other.

"The Untold History of the United States" (TV mini-series by Oliver Stone) inflamed the radical right with its "viewpoint" but it has been rigorously fact-checked and vetted to be true.
I will also highly recommend "The Better Angels of Our Nature" by Steven Pinker if you can handle a big dense book.

The US leadership is hopelessly incompetent and Russia is exploiting and leveraging a relatively weak situation into a world leadership position that Putin has coveted since his old Soviet days.
Russia's actual GDP falls below that of each of California, New York, and Texas, if they were countries rather than states.
