After receiving feedback, I don't think I will be able to continue. Although most feedback was positive, there wasn't enough feedback to convince me to order a prototype. There's another design I have been working on recently so I will be continuing to design that (though it isn't a budget board). Also during this IC, I realised the people that are willing to pay more for quality boards outnumber the people who are interested in a mediocre budget keyboard. I am sorry to disappoint the people who were genuinely interested in my keyboard but I felt like if I ran a GB, I wouldn't have been able to sell 50 units. I know I didn't even order a prototype which is probably why I didn't get much feedback. Few days after posting my IC, I realised ordering a prototype is a MUST in order to start a successful interest check. Anyway I will come back later this year with another IC (with a proto this time).

(UPDATES)
[09/08/2019] - Fixed edge of the keycaps hitting the corners of the case
[10/08/2019] - Plate layout is now universal layout :D https://imgur.com/6KWcHMH
VERY EARLY STAGE - Not even sure if I will order a prototype, which is why I would like to receive some feedback on this design from you guys.
I personally don't think the design is bad, though i've designed better looking keyboards before it was just that it was too expensive to produce. This is the final design I ended up with, something that isn't too ugly and expensive. But that is only my opinion. I shared some renders with one my friends who knows nothing about keyboards and he told me it looks like S**t. So that got me really interested in what you guys would think.
Why I want to run a GB for this design :
Gasket mount keyboards are arguably the "best" feeling keyboards. But normally they are too expensive for most of the people in the MK community (Okay tbh that's just what I assume so I might be wrong but anyway...) So I decided to work on a gasket mount keyboard that isn't too expensive. I wanted to keep the design simple and chose M5 Socket Screws to give it that "industrial" look if that makes sense.
and that's about it :)
Information on the keyboard case :
- Gasket mount (8 gaskets in total, 4 on top of the plate & 4 on the bottom)
- 6061 aluminium bead-blasted/anodized finish
- Comes in 3 colours : black/grey/silver/(might add Red & Blue depending on what you guys want)
- 7 degree angle
- No HHKB & WKL layouts
- Universal Plate
- Supports split backspace
- Selling 50 units
- Does not include PCB (supports most left sided usb PCB e.g. DZ60)
- Brass/PC plates only atm
- Uses 6 M5 low head socket cap screws

Estimated Price : $159 (excluding shipping)
(Work In Progress)
- Fixed the edge of keycaps hitting the corners of the case, but now the design looks slightly "less clean", so I am working on trying to improve to look of it!

Simple, finally not a 65. Let's do it.
-
Have any renders with switches/keycaps? That inner fillet looks like it could hit the keycaps
-
Check the inner fillet if it will hit keycaps.
-
Looks nice to me, would be awesome with a daughterboard to put the usb underneath but that would defeat the purpose of a budget board I'd think
-
Gonna disagree with your friend.
I dig it!

I'll have a look into it :) I'll update the post once i've fixed it :thumb:

Just to clarify, if folks like this design you're going to order a prototype, right?
-
Tsangan?
Already bought idb60 but at a price point like that could be tempting...
-

Correct. But the price I am offering is if I can sell 50 units which I don't think is possible based on the reviews i've recieved so far. I'll have to discuss about pricing for lower quantities.
-
Will 100% buy if 1.75u shift and tsangan are supported
-
If white color would be an option I'm 100% in.
-
Woah, that price!

The Polaris is running right now. Most people who want an affordable 60% with gasket mount will go for that (Yes even though yours might be cheaper, but hey who knows how long this IC will be. You yourself said it’s still very early stage).
So, my 2 cents: Make it a 65%. Of course the price will go up but if it’s relative to this 60% one, you’ll still have a hit.
Oh and move your USB cutout to the center if you can. Fit better with this design IMO.
-
The keyboard is very very simple and clean. Your friends are used to Corsair and razer don't let them get to you
-
Looks like a pretty good value for this price! Waiting for the updates!
Also, is there any discord we can look at for updates?
Thanks!

Moving the usb cutout to the center would mean that you can't use 90% of all 60% pcb's out there.

PCBs are easy to make and manufacture, though. No reason that should dictate the design.
-
A dz60 is even easier to buy though... Designing a new pcb and getting that made is, imo, going against the idea behind the case. Aka; being a budget friendly gasket case.
-
I like this, very clean and simple design. Looks very good :thumb:
I'm interested.
-
Finally not a keyboard IC with 65% layout, count me in. :thumb:
-
Looks interesting, but needs a proto before GB!
Would you open the plate files?
-
Love the design but you should really move the USB cutout to the left, especially since you're not going to be selling a pcb that fits the case.
Also, glad to see another 60%.
-
Tell your friend he's a ding dong. I like this design.
-
I like me some minimalist design with thicc bezels. Any plans on a 65%?
-
USB port looks weird, but I don't know how else you could fashion it.
