I've had my Model M a few days. Some of my F keys and my insert key do not actuate. They just bottom out with no "spring" or click. I got it from rarekeyboardstore.
Is this normal? I haven't pulled the keys yet because I'm worried about breaking them.
Pull the keys and check it out or write him?

Pull the keys. Prop up the front of the keyboard with a book. Reinsert the key. Should now click.
May have to try multiple times but there is little chance you can break anything. Just be careful if you pull the spacebar to support both ends.
really? My shift key has gone south and was thinking I'd have to do something drastic... What purpose does the book serve to make it click?

There's a notch on the underside of the keycap which the spring must push into. Another way of achieving this is to hold the keyboard upside-down while reinserting the keycap.

Easier:
Lift front of keyboard, tilt such that the spring sort of pivots away from you. While spring is leaning away from you, insert key.
"Book" thing is a bit ambiguous because of the huge variance in the thickness of different books, and because the keyboard front must be lifted a decent amount (more than many books can cause).

'Book' could be a 20 page instruction manual.
'Book' could be a large religious work of fiction.
'Book' could be something in the Harry Potter series.
'Book' could be the MS-DOS QBasic Programmer's Reference.

Sadly I have not had a chance to do it. Hopefully tonight. I really appreciate the advice and will update the thread as soon as I try it.

Gotta read the final book in "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" trilogy.
If you meant The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, then I agree it's a great series. I've rarely read 600+ page books so eagerly. They'd probably have edited the exposition had he lived, but even so, they're well-written.

Just to add, I'm experiencing a similar problem on my blue switch Filco - only had it a few weeks and loving it, but the Home key doesn't click. I was replacing the keycaps with a blank set when I noticed it (don't recall using the home key since I bought it).
I've noticed it does somewhat click if I depress the switch in the bottom right corner although there's much more resistance. Any ideas? =\

Someone here on Geekhack said to blow the grime out of blues that stopped clicking. I plan to try this over the coming weekend.

Just quickly used some compressed air and its improved it, guessing something must be stuck in there. Appreciated!

Screw the book thing.
Pop off the malfunctioning key caps with a small screwdriver.
Hold the keyboard vertical (either the left or right side resting on a flat surface), reseat the spring in the key cap guide and push until it snaps back in place.

Oh dear God, just hold the fecking thing upside down and be done with it...

That's what I was attempting to communicate.
I'd refer to it as "tilting it backwards" but whatever floats your boat.

It's only "fecking" if you're Irish. If you're from up near Birmingham or Newcastle, every other word is "fookin'"
No one reads books any more. Rest the keyboard over your Kindle or iPad :)
