Title: Hot-Swap Switch Sockets
Post by: Classic on Fri, 27 September 2019, 15:57:34
Who makes the best boards? Like the idea of being able to change out switches. Think this hobby just got more expensive!!

"Best" is subjective. Are you looking for any specific features? Do you have a layout in mind? Are you going for custom, kit, or mass produced?

_rubik,

Thank you for the reply. I have been using mechanical keyboards for years. Really enjoy all of the different keycaps etc. For me, having the opportunity to customize switches is huge. I have always wanted to experiment with different types etc. Have read so much about the Holy Pandas and different flavers of Zeal switches.

Currently, I have a full-size Filco Majestouch 2 and would be open for something smaller. Realize the larger keyboards are not as popular. Ultimately, I am looking for a high quality board so I can experiment with different switches etc. Just curious to what boards are the most premium for this these days.

Thanks!

GMMK has 60%,TKL,and Full Size boards with hotswap starting at $60 with no switches or keycaps, pretty decent deal for a pre-built board with those features.

there are also holtite sockets you can install to some non-hotswap boards to enable hotswap. if interested there are quite a few videos on youtube on how to do them correctly but i have heard it can be a bit of a pain.
