The plates on the images look ANSI only, but the posts says it support ISO. Will the plate depend on your order, or will be one of those that has the cutouts for both?

Are we going to know what the Lin choice color is when the gb opens?

And is there going to be an option to get writing engraved on the steel block, or is it going to be blank?

Thanks!

Hey, I am really sorry for that I can't offer an upgrade option for now.
I am doing the packing and shipping by myself with some support, but packing and doing QC takes a lot of time if there is many upgrade options.
So I just made all the order for the same condition, standardized the packing option for that.

I well noticed this issue and try to fix it from next GB.

Please make that blue color as Lin choice please pleasee  ;)

Yes, I got tons of messages that people wants that Blue one on the IC.
I am now considering it, but the reason of doing Lin Choice color is to pick a best color among many other samples that I will try during the GB.

I will update the post when the color is fixed.

The PCB use the dedicated program 'Fave Tool'
There is no plan to publish a plate file for now.

Could you add Alu 2T plate as an upgrade option?
I like the 2T plate but do not want to buy 2 plates.

P/S: Is it an option to get fixed WKL layout plate rather universal layout. I had Dolinger and Dolphin and I have to say that I hate the bottom row of the boards because of the plate cut.

If you editted it, that means your form was in. It doesn't affect submission time. Once the form is cut off that means all 50 submissions are in, granted it was closed in time.

Yeah I asked because Jane V2 CE had a lot of submissions and not all were accepted. So was curious. I hope everyone who could submit got in.

My first submission was 10.01 after which I edited because I was OCD about checking the address lol

That's what happened but a couple of people slip in. Lin closed it around 1.5 minutes or so, it's bound to have stragglers walk in at that point since people were filling it out frantically
Title: Re: [GB] Lin Montage
Post by: noahf on Sat, 26 October 2019, 10:30:34
Basically:

When someone opens a form they let it run until they know they have over the desired amount. So if he let it run for 2 minutes and then all of a sudden theres 150 entries, that means 100 submitted that didnt get in. Thats where the email time stamp comes in. It shows your submission time to google. And you can probably still edit your form even if you didnt make the cutoff.

Gl to those that got in the top 50. Sorry dan. Your other 50 boards are going to be lonely  :p

Someone told me that given form modification is still open, your first submission time should be counted. So I think you're good.

I think he said he added 10 more in the post (mentioned that he added to, which increased the time it took to sell out) therefore total is now 60.

Yeah, that's the confusing part to me.  Originally he left the form open for 10 more people to form a wait list, but then he said, "

I added 10 more friends for waiting list, for in case of cancelling order.
But, after discussion, we will just send out invoice for all 60 units.

So there's a little ambiguity there.  Does that mean he will be producing units for everyone on that list, or is he just invoicing everyone now and giving people on the waitlist a refund if they don't end up receiving a board?

Anyways, here are some interesting numbers for those that made it in:
(Including 10 additional units making it a total of 60)

Now watch Lin3 troll us and get us some rainbow color for the top and bottom  :))

I'm really hoping for that blue/cyan for Lin3's choice color..

Unless this is a new version the fAve 87 pcb has topside right usb, so it actually should fit. By placing my hiney pcb on top of my fAve 87 pcb, I can assume they are basically the same.

Huh. It definitely says "b87" in the OP but looking at the proto the USB is over on the right side where it should be for a87. It might only fit b87-sized a87 boards? (which would mean the h87a would work)

Will Hiney's H87A PCB fit in this keyboard? I know it does for the Whale (read that somewhere).

Scratch that, the google doc he linked that displays those with a spot is only 50 long, with an additional 10 representing the waitlist. My bad.

Sorry that I made this not clear.

There will be 60 units instead of 50.

I sent an email/pm for clarification on something

You have to check the actual time for when you submitted the form.

If you used Gmail you can use the ... three dots on the right of the email header and click original and find your time there.

Yeah I think I lost my spot because y'all were saying it was safe to edit, rip

It says "Compatible PCB = b87 size pcb"

The usb cutout is on the right side. fAve 87, Hiney and Leeku/Kin tx87 pcbs will fit no problems. Hiney is a skinny A87 pcb which are the same size as a b87 pcb.

Mine states 38 seconds but I used a live domain for the form so I can't access the timestamp like everyone else can.

It doesnt bump your time. Once you submit it, it stays there even if you edit it. For this instance, might be a different story. You are right, it might be rigged. Considering our timestamps we shouldve made it.

No need to apologize as I have no affiliation with this GB. Every time I restart my computer my BIOS resets and changes the year to 2059, therefore, I can't guarantee the time I saw was correct. Regardless, those who got in are in. Those who did not get in, will not get in. I don't believe there can be anything done or said to make that change.

You've also got 100+ people submitting a form at the same time. In most cases your time isn't going to matter, what matters is what order you submitted it and the timestamp in the database. If 50 other people submitted before you at 1:23, you didn't make it.

its also interesting that 2 of you are using outlook and have numbers within the cutoff, but people that use google's timestamp with a gmail account are very accurate. its possible outlooks server's are out of sync with googles?

the document didn't open for me until 07:00:17 (I watch the seconds when doing gb's) and have my submission in before 10:00:51 and my email was received by 07:00:52. I made it right in the middle of the pack. but realize every second after probably 07:01:00 has an exponential growth in submissions, so every second after 1:00 can be dramatic to your chances.

I would imagine your clocks are slightly off googles clocks. no conspiracy no unfairness.

I can agree that there is some confusion that needs to be cleared up. According to what everyone has been saying about being let into the form exactly on time then I will assume I was wrong about being let in a bit early. I'm curious as to when Ryanticz received his email as he was the last one on the list. I thought for sure I would have been one of the first 5 with how fast I was yet I was still number 21.

Most likely culprit? Faulty timestamps from desynced clocks on your PC/e-mail server, or back-end bugs in Google Forms. Either one could have delayed your submission. Unlikely to be anything malicious.

I can also confirm I refreshed the form until 7:00 pacific time, and I accessed the form right on the dot.
Title: Re: [GB] Lin Montage
Post by: hamhands on Mon, 28 October 2019, 16:39:23
There seem to be some misconceptions as to how Google Forms behaves, so I created a test form to confirm exactly how the timestamps work:

- Google Forms only stores the timestamp of your latest edit. Google Forms does not have any sort of revision history, nor does it record the timestamp of when you first submitted the form.
- The form responses are not stored in order of first submission. They are ordered according to the latest timestamp. Thus, as soon as someone edits their submission, they "lose" their spot in the list and are placed last in the list of responses.
- There is an option for the form owner to be notified by email when responses are submitted. These notifications only appear to trigger on first submission and not edits, so it can be used to track who submitted first. However, the option is turned off by default.

With these facts in mind, there are only two feasible ways to record who submitted within the specified timeframe:

- The form owner records the usernames and emails while the form is still closed. Once the names are recorded, then the form can be reopened for editing, and the owner can slog through the submissions to find those individuals' submissions.

The form opened for me exactly at 10am est after refreshing since 9:58am est.

You've also got 100+ people submitting a form at the same time. In most cases your time isn't going to matter, what matters is what order you submitted it and the timestamp in the database. If 50 other people submitted before you at 1:23, you didn't make it.

In this case

My form was before you as I was 38 sec and you were Sat, 07:00:39 -0700 PDT

Maybe my time is incorrect as opposed to yours from gmail there's no telling

This is just what we're left to.

Hope you all enjoy your boards, I saved 350 dollars today, I will be heading to the red light district.

I edited mine three times after getting in at 39-40 seconds. You all should check the x-received stamp on your first form submission.

Mine states 38 seconds but I used a live domain for the form so I can't access the timestamp like everyone else can.

Hello Friends,

Sorry that this happened.

My answer to why this was happened is that ‘I don’t know.’
But I will do what I can do to fix the things right.

Please contact me for those who have screenshots or whatsoever you can prove you are in the first 60,
Then I will give them slots if they want.

Please send email regarding the case.

Hope it helps and sorry for all this mess.
This is my first time experience going through this system.

But I will analyze this case why it happened and will fix it from next GB.

P.S. I got informed from my team who actually made the google form that he did not fix the form. So if you have made correction on the form, the timestamp changed. It was 2 or 3 cases among entire order for now.

If I'm incorrect here, someone let me know.
Heres mine.

I received the email 7:01:30 therefore, i shouldve made it to the first 50 orders. I didnt even made it to the 60 cut offs. Lol.

Don't even need photoshop, I'm sure you can just edit the page source.
I get why people are pissed that editing bumped their timestamp, but there's almost always a period where you can change your order after the slots are locked in. It would've been better if we knew not to edit from the start, though.

yeah you could, by Photoshop I just meant evidence being Altered in any way. I have submitted mine but I don't feel great about it. I wouldn't mind a redo, this situation kinda sucks for everyone.

I thought I got ****ed and panicked because the form initially only allowed numbers to be entered whereas I have letters in my postal code.

Having people forward their form and alteration receipts would probably make it harder to cheat.

I'm biased of course, but I'd prefer not to do a redo -- waking up at 6:30 in the west coast and stressing about it doesn't seem very appealing to me.

I think Lin and his team has already explained how the form timestamp was recorded: you edit then you get a new timestamp. I'm in the original 60 spot and my time was 1:08.

I also edited my form. But here's the catch, I did it after Lin updated the OP and said that participants could now edit. So I really don't understand the rush to edit the form right after filling it the first time. Perhaps there's something fishy about this impatience and not how the form works. :dafoe:

I'm confused about PCB compatibility. b87 size is listed as a compatible PCB. However, the prototype has the USB port on the right side. Also, previous fave87 PCBs also have the USB port on the right side.

Will the USB port for the production units be moved to the left side of the housing?

Nevermind. Lin has corrected the compatibility.

I get that the edit issue might have hit legitimate form fills who freaked out over their postcode or whatever, but for getting rid of garbage first edit later orders it's not so bad.

Reading all the comments, I feel like everyone's too fixated on the timestamps (which has a number of contributing factors such as computer time, internet speed/connection, geographic location, etc.). Frankly if Lin never mentioned the cut-off time then no one would've said anything. Then again, I got in and would likely be equally upset if I didn't and felt like I should have.

Yeah, I filled mine out normally and still got in.

Funnily enough, if people waited a few hours before editing then they'd likely have gotten a spot.

Maybe not be too quick to judge people. I did not fill garbage information in my first submission and I can share the first submission confirmation that I got. Editing it was a mistake as I was paranoid about the address and that is a learnt lesson.

I do not wish for any redo and hope everyone who got in enjoy their board. It's a fantastic Lin design

:dafoe:
Because some people fill out a gb form with garbage to quickly get a slot. They then update to put down correct information (address, etc.).

Maybe stop doing that.

totally agree。

we call these people cattle in China, who ruins the communify by selling their slots
GB organizers limit their product and play form filling race games. Slot buyers spend the $$ to buy the slot... but yes, its the resellers 'ruining the community' lol

People who buy slots just to sell at a profit are like ticket scalps outside concerts. They’re the only ones who are being ****s here. Can’t do much about that though.
Why treat the cause when you can just moan about the symptom, amarite?

What would you have gb runners do? Increasing the number of orders will inevitably increase lead time or decrease quality, or both.

I've never gotten involved in the resell game, nor do I think reselling is bad, so I don't think runners need to do anything. If these runners/designers want to one-man-job the whole thing, which I'm assuming has everything to do with either maximizing profits or keeping the exclusivity hype or both, and therefore limit sale numbers because of it, by all means do so. ****, even if it's some pride thing that you can do everything by yourself with no help, go for it. But that's the stem of the "issue" of reselling, for those that think reselling is so damn criminal. That and the people willing to drop 2x+ the price. If you want to kill reselling, make everything widely available and/or don't buy @ resell prices. Screeching at people selling spots does nothing lol

I get that re-selling for 2-3x price is outrageous but its the nature of a hobby like this. Go ahead cry about it, it's your right.

You can argue that the same thing affects other hobbies as well. Mice, Sneakers, Stamps..etc

Only way to kill reselling is to convince the entire community to sell at a decent price or make it widely available, only the latter is plausible to a degree.

Hell, even group buy runners themselves sell their own product for twice the cost of group buys sometimes, I know Matrix was selling his 2.0 for a while on mm at above 1k prices.

If any item has "collectors value" on it, there will be a variable on the actual price sold.

I think that's totally fair. Personally I don't have a big problem with high aftermarket prices; In the end it's just a keyboard, and nobody will die if they don't get to have it. There will always be more groupbuys in the future while demand persists, and having a limited supply keyboard makes it feel more special imo.

Today I have 1 good news and 1 bad news.

I will go for the bad one first.

I know you guys participated in this GB and chose 'Lin choice' color for that 'light blue' color on the IC and GB page.

But unfortunately, we can't offer that color for now since the color chip is not available due to environment regulation.

We tried to mix the color chips to make it look similar but, we couldn't and will not be able to guarantee the uniformity between the first batch and later ones.

We decided to remove the color due to potential quality control issues. So no more light blue for that Lin choice.
Here is the good news.

We will offer you guys 4 more colors instead of that light blue.

So now, everyone can choose  between 6 colors total.  Black / Silver / Red / Green / Gray and Navy.

Make up your mind, and we will prepare a google form to collect your new color selection.

And yes, this applies even for those who chose black and silver. (can change to other colors)

Hope you guys enjoy choosing, and I will collect the form sometime in next week.

Thank you!

Please visit our discord server to check the sample color.

Agreed  Per lin it's not the exact same as the Whale R2 navy, but it is close. Looks a little more blue to me:

Hello everyone.

Today, I have an announcement about the new lin choice color offer.

Sorry for making all this confusion but we got contact from anodizing company yesterday that they have found color mix for the light blue color and we decided to add that on our offer.

But we negotiated with the anodizing company to reduce current color to 4. So our last color offer will be black, silver, navy and the light blue. Sorry for those who was thinking green, gray and red. We will offer those colors with our new GB.

This light blue and navy is our original choice, which we designed the keypora with those matching colors.

Anyway, I will send out all the email later today to collect your new color choice, and you can submit and change your form until 19th of Nov.

For anyone else who doesn't follow along in Discord, there was an update just before the weekend:

Quote
Hello, Montage update

1. There was some pending issue on sanding and anodizing company.
   - Please understand this pending issues occurs very often in this industry since priority oftens goes to bigger companies with bigger volumn.

2. We will start the shipping from early Feb.

3. Shipping will be done gradually, starting from local to global.

4. We look forward to ship all the orders until the end of Feb.5. I will post some of the pictures of the montage after production. The picture was taken 3 weeks ago.

Also there's the March 11th update:
Quote
First of all, I am so sorry for the delay. Since the GB started last november, we were stratching to our goal, shipping in Feb.
Have to admit that we set up the target date with too tight, did not consider any unexpected issues like we are facing now in Korea.

We thought we were not effected much and we still can make it through with little bit of delay, but now the factory is lined up with bigger volumes from
all other areas from Korea with bigger volumes, which makes our priority goes behind. Silver and black colors were done last week Lin did not accepted the QC and send back.

Anyway, we hope we can update the shipping day in near future, hopely in March.

Hello, everyone

Hope you are all safe and sound from COVID 19.
I feel so sorry to hear the news, that this disease is now not a problem of certain Asian countries any more.

Now, I will have to check how the EMS will work during these days.
I heard EMS does not accept the shipping order For certain countries.
I will keep monitoring the status and make the shipment asap.

I have couple of announcement for today, regarding Montage shipment, Montage PCB compensation and Dolinger RE GB.

Hope you guys will like it when you get these packages too.

Some fresh potatoes of mine all built up. The anodization is definitely lighter in person.

Build Details:
-Switches: Alpaca Linears (Krytox 205g0, Green TX Films)
-Plate: Full, Silver Aluminum
-Stabs: GMK Clip-in (Clipped, Krytox 205g0)
-Keycaps: GMK Bento
-Mount: Top (Sandwich was not quite tight enough and bottom was shorting some switches)

Bento is nice choice on the light blue.

It is a tight fit, I didn't clip my sip sockets and they were touching the bottom of the case while using top mount. No room for sound dampening.

wow, bento looks beautiful on that lighter blue! i think to do sandwich the plate needs to be 2mm (could totally be wrong), but yeah I was getting shorting switches doing bottom mount too, so i put a couple thin felt pieces along the bottom and then just decided to go top mount as well.

That seems quite strange to me, and is a bit odd that it took more than a few days to notice. I find some inconsistencies in the reporting you are doing vs. the product I got. Hopefully this information helps and others can chime in to clarify.

(1) the plate that was originally on the Montage when it shipped was aluminum in my case.

(2) the brass plate I got has a horizontal brush pattern to it. Yours appears sanded in all directions (by sandpaper or similar).

(3) the kinds of dents and marks would hardly pass any form of QC, specifically the ones above the nav cluster.

Is this damage from shipping? If that were the case, then you should also document the Linworks Montage black box with the foam, packaging paper, as well as the box that contained it all, as well.

Hello. Okay you posted here.

Yes it was my mistake that I did not have any WK navy available atm and asked you if you can change color and you accepted it.
I sent you a free pcb for that compensation. So I think that will not be any issue since we both agreed.

And the damage part, it is hardly believable that I have sent these kinds of damaged parts. There was no mention of damage, but the plate was swapped (as it originally had alu on). You posted  pictures of damaged parts with the brass plate on, which means you have opened the housing at least once, and those damages are easy to be seen.

We could have missed something small on the QC, but both Lin and I certainly did not see any boards with that much scratching and damage when we did the QC.

And as long as I know, you have talked with Lin and agreed to have partial refund for this.
I find it strange that you are posting this to Geekhack.

I have to say it's all bizarre that there's been such inconsistencies between shipments and parts, and if it really was an oversight from the sender, that it should be remedied. I only thought it was strange because the box in which the Montage shipped was quite sturdy (pretty much had foam like a TX Bag) and the package was well-packed.

If it is an existing pattern, though, such slip-ups are hard to condone.

My Montage was well packaged as well. There were no issues in the anodizing, I'd go as far to say that it was flawless. I did have some scuffing (nothing deep) on the badge and it seems like a couple of other boards' badges had that as well.

1) Yes, it originally came with the alu plate, and as Kevin pointed out, I did swap the plates. But I don't see how I could have caused that much damage and still maintained the anodizing.
2) As others have pointed out, their plates also came like this. I don't care about the plate finish, it was fine to me.
3) Agreed, so I am surprised that it has somehow passed "QC" but there has consistently been issues and inconsistencies.

There was no noticeable/visible damage on the box, it shipped fine.

Sending Silver WK wouldn't be an issue if it didn't have all these defects. But I mention it in the post as it starts from there, and it points out that mistakes have been made with orders before.
I'm talking about it on GH because the "resolution" was a partial refund of $35, thanks.

Sending Silver WK wouldn't be an issue if it didn't have all these defects. But I mention it in the post as it starts from there, and it points out that mistakes have been made with orders before.
I'm talking about it on GH because the "resolution" was a partial refund of $35, thanks.

1. Housing QC issues
Below is the picture I got when you reported this issue to me.
When you have that kind of noticeable mark, as soon as you open the box, you should have not done any further actions but report the issues first. (I haven't got any other reports like yours yet.)
But you proceeded to open the case, and swapped the original aluminum plate to the brass one. Are you 100% sure the mark was there from the first time you opened the box? Because both Lin and I are sure that we did not have and did not even see that kind of big mark on any boards, which should have been very easy to notice. Are you sure there weren't any issues when you opened the case and swapped plates? You said that the anodizing is not damaged. But I have seen other cases that have been dented but without marks of damaged anodizing.

2. Partial Refund
It seems you are not happy with the $35 partial refund offer. I checked your conversation with Lin, and with him, you both agreed to that amount, and you accepted it.
You were asking for $50 the first time, and our counter offer was $35, which is 10% of the GB price.
I know it is not a big amount, but if you would consider the total amount, it is still not a small amount on our side.
I refunded you USD $40 for the PCB (a full refund as per your request), and also provided a free PCB to swap. And I personally helped you with a DHL shipping upgrade, since EMS was not available to AU.
This was in summary what was offered to you: $350 (GB Price) - $40 (PCB full refund) - $40 (PCB compensation for color swap request) - $35 (case color swap compensation) = $235 (total)

Ultimately, I am sorry for all this trouble that you are experiencing. Hope that this issue can be closed in goodwill for both sides.

Fair enough, I didn't notice it when I first opened it. But how can I have caused this kind of damage?

The case itself is deformed and anodised over.

I accepted the $35 because I was clearly going nowhere in trying to "resolve" this. That is not an indication that I was happy at all with what you offered. The fact is I'm done with Lin boards, this is just a warning for all those in future.

With regards to the PCB refund, that was offered to everyone because it had a fault. So I was compensated for the colour swap from Navy to Silver with a defective PCB and a defective board.

I feel so sad for this happening and again really sorry.

This situation is not something usual for both sides and now the fact is that you got a faulty case.
I am still willing to make this thing right and I will contact you to make things better.

I gave you the opportunity to make things better when I contacted you.

It's nice that you've apologised, but I feel that it's only because I have spoken about this publicly. I contacted Lin after getting nowhere with you and he apologised straight away after seeing the photos.

Ideally the best resolution would be a replacement board, but I have the feeling that you don't have any available.

I'd be interested to know how Kevin goes about swapping plates if he thinks this is what a board that's had its plate swapped looks like.

I'm really sad to see what it takes to this person to get a proper refund or a replacement for such an obvious QC problem. No one should have to go public for this. I really hope you guys are going to help nug above $35. Please stand by your quality reputation, which shouldn't be only in terms of keyboards but also support.

I would be surprised if it isn't fixed. Of all the group buys I've joined I have to say Lin ones have been easily among the most professional and helpful.

Any chance on r2 of this board?

I believe there is a polycarb round running some time around now. Might have already missed it though.

Yup, raffle was on Thursday or Friday for something like 20 polycarb Montages and a bunch of Dolingers.

I'd follow Lin's Discord if you want one of his boards: https://discord.gg/ddNX6XMd
