[attach=6]
I originally created this keyboard as a personal project earlier this year as a keyboard with a layout that would work best for me in CAD and was only planning on getting one made for myself and a friend but when others heard of the board either via me or my keyset renders for GMK Night Runner they would always ask about when they could get it. So here it is, after a bit of work getting the prototypes made and ironing the bugs out, I introduce my baby the SP-111!
What does the name mean?
It has a ton of meanings to the name that most don't even realize.
- SP: Split, Southpaw, Special. 3 meanings tied to the 3 ones in the name.
- 111: The numbers from my username. Original meaning for the numbers in my username is my b-day, November 1st, so I had to incorporate it somehow.
- 111: Wait, there is more meaning? Yep! The 3 prototypes (once again representing the 3 ones in the name and the 3 people with them) have a layout that has exactly 111 switches (one of the layout options).
Why is this board laid out like it is?
- Southpaw to allow you to use the numpad and mouse at the same time (helpful for CAD and other data entry)
- Split to allow placement in a comfortable manner for long sessions of data entry or work in general.
- Right side layout to maintain the functionality of a full size in a much more compact manner. Hence the 1800 style arrows and vertical nav.
What mounting style is it?
- Sandwich mount, with the plate visible around the edges and locating tabs for alignment.
What are the specs?
- Board has a typing angle of 7 degrees (yes it is like a normal board but split, no tenting available unless you plan on drilling and tapping the case...)
- Left side weights 1.49 Kg (3.29 lb) and the right side weights 1.3 Kg (2.87 lb). This is without pcbs, switches or caps, and there are no weights, just case and plate.
- Board interconnect is Type-C, I am not a heathen!
- Board connects via Type-C as well.
Is the buy limited or unlimited?
- Unlimited of course! I don't like to run buys with a max for the sake of making it exclusive.
Will I be able to buy an extra set of pcbs?
- Yes, the plan is to sell extra pcbs alongside this board so you can have spares.
Will I be able to buy extra plates?
- Not sure at the moment, I would like to but no guarantees they will be available.
Will the plate files be posted so I can make my own plates?
- That is the plan, not sure exactly when I will post them (probably around delivery time?). This means you can do mirrored numpad plates and different materials to your liking just know that for the usb ports to align properly 1.5mm plates need to be used unless you make a spacer below the plate.
When will I be able to get my SP-111?
- It will ship probably early to mid Q2 to be safe as it entirely depends on the quantity ordered for the lead time.
My favorite feature?
- The smooth slope on the bottom side, which is really nice to touch when either picking it up or just thinking.

Layouts:
- Before anyone asks, mirrored numpad is not supported on the plates due to the issues it brought to the table for that corner of the board (basically a super flex section that would feel horrible compared to the rest of the board). It IS supported on the PCB though if you want to get your own plates cut.
- And as a side note, you can mix and match the bottom row options, they don't have to be both the same spacebar size, each side layout is independent of each other and the included plate supports 2.75u and 2.25u options on both halves. 3u will require a different plate just because it made the plate a bit too light on material to include. So if you feel like a 2.25u and 3u you can go for it (if you get a plate made).
[attachimg=1]
- The following are PCB only to not have the plate be too weak and flex more than intended.

Colors:
- Black with sandblasted brass plate.
- E-white with sandblasted brass plate.
- Blue-gray with a sandblasted brass plate.

Vendors/Dates:
- This will be run by The Key Dot Company and proxies most likely (TBD)

Timeline:
- November 22nd start date, end date not set atm.
Pricing:
- Black or blue kit: $399
- E-white kit: $419

Thanks for not loading the page with renders!
Such a nice board, the prototypes are so very nice to type on.
-
I F5 this site cause I'm waiting to see this board. In 2024 noobs are gonna post keyboards not in this layout as a look what I found for karma because literally everyone with two hands or some sort of prosthetic is gonna buy one including kingnestea's friend who puts his feet in the picture with his keyboard
uh, actual feedback: Bottom row options reworked so we can all use our 2.25u / 2.75 split bars is awesome.

consider me interested

Love this design. Perfect work board. Super interested!

nice

stunning board. prefer this over the VE.A ;D
will there be any weights on the bottom, or is it gonna be a clean flat bottom?

I'll just rename it "The Beast." Look at it RAWR! :thumb:

Can confirm. It's beefy as **** (in a good way).

What's the front height?

What's the front height?
The front edge is ~21mm tall.

I know this one ain't gonna be cheap, but I really want one! Awesome layout & split, I'm sold. I've been stashing money to the side for my next custom, depending on the timing of the GB I'm hopefully gonna get in on one of these.

Chunky but I'll live with it for the layout.

PSA for those who love this layout like I do: GMK Dracula-ending in less than 2 days- has an F13 key.
Curious to see how all of you occupy F13, scroll lock, pause, and the 4 atop the numpad.

Yes Please.

Got some new renders for you all from my friend MetallicCharles.
Pics of the color options:

Blue ano and brass plate

And a sexy angle for good measures.

I went from I'll get the two non blue ones to def in for the blue. That's beautiful.
If I ask nicely will spare PCBs be available? If it's not part of the group buy and it's separate/down the road thats fine too. I hope to use these boards for years to come.

I already have black and was thinking of getting white, now I want white and blue...I might have too many if I did that though.

I'll take it

blue is beautiful

Lost me at "too many." Home, work, spare.

Well they wouldn't be my only boards...I have about 20 already :-[
-
I hear you. I have display keycaps boards and let's work boards. To me, this is the latter; albeit pretty enough to be the former.
-
I was curious about the Blue-gray, definitely not disappointed.
-
OMG that blue brass is gorgeous. Definitely the one I will choose.
I apologize in advance because I know you must hear a million suggestions from everyone. This is your board and I love it! That said: Would you ever consider offering the board with no angle whatsoever, just flat? Tilt forward is so bad for ergo, and it being split will definitely target the ergo community. In fact I would love a decline tilt if anything but I know those are not very popular, so just a flat board would be awesome!
Other than that this is a dream board. I already have a separate numpad to the left of my quefrency.. So this all being together and mappable via qmk is so awesome. Thank you for your hard work!

Maybe in the future I can offer a bottom replacement to do just that, but no plans to do so atm.
-
It was worth an ask :)
Totally fine, I'm still all in, thanks for the quick reply!
-
RDaneelOlivaw-my preferences are the same as yours. I dont mind an overall taller board (I'm tall) but I do like the flat angle...and yet would completely give it up for using one of these.
Blinadassassin111: If you offered different bottom parts down the line (weights, flat angles)...I'm buying what you're selling.
-
I would at least put in a vote for a shallower angle. 5° or less.
-
The more I think about this, the more I find myself loving the design. This looks incredible and I can't wait for the GB to start!
-
it's like everything I like about the VE.A minus all the things I don't like. Can't wait
-
Update:
Added support for mirrored numpad to the PCB only, the plate will support a non-mirrored numpad only as the plate would basically be nonexistent for the numpad otherwise.
-
TKC said Nov 22nd on their reddit update, is that true? Gotta make sure my moneys ready.

It is! I didn't have time to make a big update for this today so...yes. Will update tomorrow most likely.

November 22? Here I thought I could make myself unbroke before the GB.

Is there a price range?

where the heck am i supposed to get a f13 key for this, anyways im interested in this board

You can do an F13 or one of the other R1 nav cluster caps, it just happened to line up like an F13 when I did it.
-
Dracula Err kit had an F13. You can just put your Rama cap there too.
-
It's awesome!!! If I can afford the price, I will make sure to buy it!!

You can use "Print Screen" instead.

Will there be a typing test of a built and working prototype before the GB opens?
Also +1 for extra PCBs.

I would definitely want this big beautiful thing on my desk. That black and brass looks so good.

Nice, looks good.
A prototype photo was apparently posted on Reddit a few days ago too: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/dq9uxc/my_birthday_present_to_everyone_the_new_king_of/

will the plate files be available after the GB, so ISO users can cut their own (right-side)plate?

I am debating on what to do now, If I don't have it available as a plate during GB I will release it for people.
-
i love this, BUT i cant imagine using the numpad if its not revered, cuz my pinky needs to only use the two big keys on the outside, and it looks like this pcb does not support such shenanigans. maybe i’ll be in on the revision. love the idea though

Update:
Getting everything ready for the launch on 11/22, hopefully will have a final update soon so everyone knows what to expect but wanted to give y'all something while you wait.

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it, just saw this board today and I think I like it

just Saw the pricing here
Extra pcb’s? I just had an interconnect go on my daily driver split board and am hoping to get several spares for yours.

I am pretty sure we will offer extra pcbs, never want to leave someone in that spot.
And sorry for no update today, by the time I got what I needed it was too late to make a big post and all...tomorrow here for sure, sorry. :-[
-
I'm buying two (one for home and one for the road) and my roadie board gets pretty beat up, so I'm definitely interested in extra PCB's. I recently just had to give up on the quefrency's from keebio because they are just so fragile.
Also, just curious, is there any general idea on shipping? Or does that depend on the gb? Like could we expect shipping this year, or are you thinking more like spring next year?
-
Will the number of units available be limited? Hoping to get one, but quite bad with winning checkout form races.
-
Per reddit post yesterday evening: sounds like unlimited. Word was extra PCBs likely.
-
Selling standalone PCBs would also be great for anyone who wanted to make an acrylic case with the same layout.
-
Any other plate options other than brass for the group buy? Personally would be interested in a halfplate or something more flexy than aluminium or brass.
-
Update:
Sorry for the late update but some exciting things.
The GB will be open on Nov 22nd at TheKey.Company, so get ready for that!
Many people have asked similar questions so I will address them here and in the OP.
1) Is the buy limited or unlimited? Unlimited of course! I don't like to run buys with a max for the sake of making it exclusive.

And now for the new stuff!
Pricing starts at $399 for a black or blue case and $419 for an e-white case. This includes pcbs, case, plates and misc accessories. I will be getting everything ready for launch and will make a GB post soonish so everyone can get ready.
Thank you all for the support, I honestly never expected this board to get the reception it has given I was just wanting to make a board for me originally and people convinced me to make it public because they loved it. I hope to see a ton of these in the wild one day!

re: F13 key
The WOB R0/R5, 40s, relegendables interest check here:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=102335.100
is asking whether people might like an F13 key, which I figure some might like for the SP-111. If you're into that like me, there's a brief survey here:

Nevermind, saw my ISO question has been addressed already
This is a beautiful board
-
Update:
Okay I have made the GB post, but still waiting on approval before I close this thread, and I had a few things to say.
List of changes made since the IC was made:
1) ISO has been added to the plates, had been on the fence most of the time on if I was going to do this but finally added so you don't have to get a custom plate just to do ISO.
2) Added mirrored numpad to the pcb only, it would make the numpad area of the plate almost nonexistent so I would rather only support one variation.
Vendors and timeline:
1) This will be on sale at TheKey.Company and proxied by Candykeys, zFrontier and Daily Clack.
2) The GB will go live on Novemeber 22nd at TheKey.Company and the proxies may launch a tad later.
3) This will be open for a month (exact date tbd) and will be unlimited.
Thank you all for the feedback and I know some changes that were requested didn't happen but I still wanted to keep it the board I originally made for myself so some suggested changes were forgone due to this.
-

This looks amazing. Quick question as these types of boards are new to me. Looking at the prototypes, the right piece will connect to the left piece using a usb-c cord correct (male to male)? Meaning that, the cord that will connect to the pc is going to come from the left piece. If so, it this cord going to be provided in the kit? I looked around but wasn't able to find the answer, maybe I missed it. Thanks!

The board to board cable is going to be, but board to computer will not as most will end up using something else most likely but the interconnect will help if someone doesn't wish to get a custom cable made.
