Title: [IC] Light-Weight ThicThock Progressive Switch Springs
Post by: SoraNoTenshi on Thu, 31 October 2019, 04:01:44
Hello there,

so since i have been looking for a pretty long time for light-weight progressive springs and always hit a wall there (basically there is no light-weight progressive spring on the market right now!)
I reached out to ThicThock which are known for their DL and MP Series Springs, and soon also known for their Marshmallow switches.

So here i am, finally being able to do an IC for 52 / 53.5g springs for switches!! And yes, those will be progressive as well!

FAQ:
MoQ: 10.000
Min Order: 100x Springs
Price / 100x Springs?: 10.50$ (not including shipping)
Any Proxies?: No really, but if eventually enough EU-Orders comes in, i will proxy it.
Any cool features?: Well they're progressive, and light-weight... so that's already cool!
53.5g won but i wanted 52g: well, if this run is successful and enough people show interest, we can for sure run this again.

So for the final point from my side: here is a Google form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1v4-MOsCrETIEe8nDwyp364hno-5NrA0QGzNYoaINVi8 (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1v4-MOsCrETIEe8nDwyp364hno-5NrA0QGzNYoaINVi8)

EDIT: I am doing some final work on those springs, what would be your most desired curve? I would like a very sharp curve, but maybe you also have some great ideas! So let me know about them! :)

Too few info about the springs. What is the initial force? What is the bottom out force? Basically what is the spring curve on a linear switch?

I will try and get an approx. Curve diagram for those springs, since those springs have not yet been produced (because this is an IC after all) we'll see what kind of information we can get.

The Curve should be similar to the MP Springs from ThicThock.

EDIT: We (mostly me) have to finalize some details, i would also want to let the Community have some decision making in this, i would wanted to head out for a sharp increasingly weight, but what is your opinion on that?

I'm always up for more options, good initiative. :thumb:

Let's get some really strongly progressive springs! I think a lot of people would be interested in that.

Light weight springs are my jam. I'm in

I'd be down for some of those 53.5g progressive springs. Been wanting to do a build with lighter switch weighting & give progressive springs a try, could two birds with one stone here!

If there's enough interest, the springs could even be gold-plated!

How do progressive springs work? Are they conical?

How do progressive springs work? Are they conical?
Normally they have denser winding on one end.

Exactly, usually you can imagine it as a curve going up in weight the further you press it.

I was thinking about a very sharp curve, increasing heavily in weight, but please let me know your desired behaviour of that curve!!

I would also vote for very steep curve starting somewhere at 75% of total travel.

Because the question came up:

The Springs can be ordered from anywhere, the option if you'd order from the EU is there, because of me potentially proxying the springs.
So - there won't be any issues with that.

Also; currently there are only 4k qty of potential orders, we need to hit atleast 11k before those springs get into further development!

If we don't hit that qty in about 1 Month from now, i unfortunately have to say that this IC has failed. (which would be a bummer, but hey if there is no interest there from the community... :( )

Dead GB ? :/

Was never in GB phase, but in ic phase.
since there is no enough interest (unfortunately) the IC has failed and the thread now closed.

I will leave the interest check form open until the end of the year, but don't expect anything :)
