Title: Glorious GMMK compact with USB-C pcb upgrade and magnetic USB C Connection......
Post by: botlebruiser on Thu, 07 November 2019, 15:44:38
I have been doing a lot of research on 60% keyboards. I recently picked up a Glorious Model O and I am amazed at how much I prefer it over a nice Razer mouse that cost over twice as much. I aboslutely love it. I have a Coolermaster SK621 that I use with my SFF build for when I travel back and fourth to my girlfriends house. Its great for portability and isn't bad to type on but when I'm home I would prefer something a little larger. I think its mainly the keycaps that make it a little awkward to type on sometimes but overall its great for what it is.
So I love the build quality of the Glorious Model O and I love the concept of the Glorious GMMK Compact with the hot swap pcb, it gets great reviews for durability and if the quality is similar to that of the Model O I want one for sure. I'm a very able fabricator. I can solder and all that good stuff but I don't enjoy it enough to solder a new set of switches whenever I see a set I want to try. So, the ONLY problem is the micro usb is a big turn off for me. I don't like them. I worked in the wireless industry when I was younger and I can't tell you how many broken micro usb charging ports I've seen. I've gotten used to USB C and I like it. I want to do some nice exotic switches and a nice set of keycaps as well if I go forward with the GMMK compact. I found this on novelkeys and I am curious how it would work out. Typically things like this are either really easy and don't pose a problem or they end up being too much of a challenge. But I feel like I would be able to change this keyboard over time to be whatever I want so if its doable its worth the hassle.

The idea behind this is to eliminate the nuisance micro usb problems. It is desinged to work with custom mechanical keyboards but I haven't seen a list of compatible keyboards or anything like that yet.

If I were to go through the hassle of upgrading the Glorious GMMK compact to USB C I would have to order a custom cable and this connection might top it off. I would probably buy a few extra adapters and use them with all my keyboards. I just thought these would be a cool touch.
