Title: Hello again, do people here still build keyboards?
Post by: cultofjosh on Sun, 17 November 2019, 20:58:43
I'm not sure how much the community has changed since I've been absent. I was mostly active in 2014 and popped in here briefly in 2017 to pick up a Cyrillic keycap set. I just noticed that mass drop now owns this site. No offense to massdrop, but had I known this site was going to be sold, I would have never donated the geekhack.com domain (for the redirect.) I was under the impression that I was donating that to a community, not a (future) commercial entity. Again, no offense mass drop, I love you guys :thumb: Sorry, I just needed a quick vent about that.

Funny, I've been surfing both sites the past week without realizing the connection. So much looked so similar to past GH group buys, I was confused. I was looking for hyperfuse sets to match my unbuilt [CTRL]ALT 60% (custom GON nerd 60) - don't love the remix but this keyboard and its big purple feet was meant to shine with Hyperfuse.

I never actually became a builder though I bought a whole bunch of stuff in 2014. It looks like mass drop has so much cool stuff these days that I'll never need to build them. So you may see a classified thread soon with some cool stuff from 2014, assuming I ever motivate to take pictures :) I'll be keeping my modded/geekhack colored panavise that mkawa made; but unfortunately, I may be forced to part with my beloved FMJ poker case. It looks like the classified rules are pretty much the same though I should probably read up to make sure.

Anyway, glad to see to site still looks pretty much the same as the last time I was here.  Hoping this site is still affectionately referred to as wallethack  :) I know one thing hasn't changed. Peeps are still obsessed with those artisan keycaps. I never got the appeal of those, LOL.

People here still build keyboards, the process has become somewhat difficult but the case, plate and pcb + switches and solder is all thats needed.

Sure we do, if not, why should we be here on Geekhack?

The site is still very active! Not sure what the breakdown of the community is between here, reddit, and deskthority, but we're still kicking.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Massdrop (now, Drop :/ ) acquisition, but luckily I haven't seen too much of a change/impact. Not sure what the future holds, but, for the time being, the community seems more active than it was in 2014.
