Thanksgivings around the corner, how do y'all cook your bird? Stick to roasting it in the oven or does anyone deep fry or sous vide? Break it down or do it whole? Brine it? Stuff it? Skip the turkey all together and go for something else?
-
We first shoot the turkey to death, and then we stuff it (😳😳😳😳😳😳) , cook it for about 2-3 hours and then put it on table
-
Dep Fry has always been Tp4 fav..
-
I recently cooked one using a Traeger pellet smoker/grill. It was the greatest turkey I had ever tasted. They sold a brine and pellet kit with it. I brined it for 24 hours then added seasoning and smoked it for 2 hours then cooked it for 2.

I let someone else cook it and then I just enjoy

Huge ribeye roast or big ol brisket...
less hassle to cook, more ways to cook leftovers, maximum fun

And it costs a lot more. I was in Kroger today and saw huge turkeys @ <$20!

I've never had a fried turkey, always wanted to try one though. Turkey is probably my favorite bird meat.

Always wanted to try a deep fry. My go to for thanksgiving though is breaking the bird into parts or spatchcocking it and dry brining it in the fridge. That way I can use the backbone and neck to make stock in advance for dressing and anything else i feel like dropping a ladle of hot turkey juice into.

Turkeys are so cheap right now I'll probably pick up an additional smaller one and smoke it on my kettle grill in the near future!

We tried it and it sucked tbh

Frying can be good, but it is trickier than people think.
Whole birds roasted in the oven are still my favorite, and a convection oven makes it far faster and better, too.
I think it is good to let the turkey come to room temperature and cook it quicker and hotter, rather than starting with it cold and cooking longer and slower.
And - always cook the dressing on the side - stuffing the body cavity makes even cooking almost impossible!

Thank you for the helpful tip!

The stuffing issue can be resolved by SLI-n 2 smaller turkeys instead of 1 big one.

We hunt the turkey ourselves , so we can't really choose smaller turkeys.
In addition, over 20+ people come over to my family's cottage so we've got a lot to feed. Definitely not deep frying that turkey again. Big mistake!

Lucky you, wild game is always better!
If you are going to fry, do the smaller ones and don't overcook, they can finish surprisingly quickly.
-
Wild is significantly less likely to carry diseases such as bird flu. If you have to eat meat, that's the way to go.
-
Use juices from turkey to moisten stuffing. Feed actual turkey to dog.
