Title: Does She Think My Tractor's Sexy?
Post by: Kavik on Tue, 26 November 2019, 00:02:24
In June, I got a Facebook message from a woman who apparently went to my high school and was three years my junior. I did not see this message until yesterday because FB had filtered it into "message requests" with no notification, so I responded, apologizing for the late reply and telling her that, despite seeing her in my yearbooks, I indeed did not remember her, as she suspected. I asked if she ended up graduating from our school (it shut down a few years after I'd graduated). After discussing graduation years and such, I basically said thanks for reaching out, trying to be nice, thinking that was probably the end of it.

Then she asked what I've been up to nowadays and said, "If you want to text me it's so much easier" and then wrote her phone number. She followed that three hours later with, "Unless that's totally weird. I get it! Haha".

This seems like a come-on to me, but I can tell from her profile that she's in a lesbian relationship with a woman, whom I do recognize from school. But they both seem to have children, so she must have been heterosexual at one point in time. To top it off, since I don't even remember her and we were three grades apart, we don't even have anything to discuss really. Is she just trying to be friendly or what? Even if she's just being friendly, I don't really want to give her my phone number because of the suspicion it would bring and also the annoyance of receiving text messages, lol. One other detail is that we're not FB friends, nor has she requested to be such.

Unsolved Mysteries presented by Kavik :D Definitely a rather odd scenario.

Could try being straight up.

“I’m sorry, I don’t really like texting, but considering our distant connection to one another, is there something specific you wanted to talk about or are you just reaching out to kindle a friendship”

Something like that with a little more tact.

So do you have kidneys? Do you like having kidneys? You know this will end with a bathtub filled with ice.

Not necessarily. Sperm banks and artificial insemination do exist.

BTW, which tractor?

Not sure I'd have anything to discuss with my friends from school, let alone someone I didn't know was there.

Personally I'd have ignored her (she already thiught you had and nothing bad happened) but too late for that so I agree with dingus.  Except for the 'more tact' part because that wording seems perfectly appropriate.

Tp4 has read some where that females exist in a chronic state of bodily insecurity, which leads them to seek regular affirmation from both compatriots and strangers.

This fickle mental state may be biologically advantageous as it increases their scope of the dna pool.

Can somewhat relate to this story. During late junior school we had a girl in our class with whom I was friend (at least I think so). Eventually, after finishing junior school she moved to a different place and obviously to a different school. It is hard to remember if we ever talked on the phone, but we were spending a quite some time together during and after school. So I either didn't ask about new phone or she didn't give me one. Anyhow, it was about 2005 and at that time I had no PC/internet and social networks were still in infancy, but IMs were popular already (such as ICQ), so I had no way to contact her.

Fast forward about a decade, I get this brilliant idea to find this girl on the social network and just ask how life has been treating her. She was playing violin at the time so I was also wondering whether she was pursuing musical career. You know, I wasn't trying to hit on her or whatever, just wanted to catch up. It was as disappointing as one could imagine this situation being. Her answers were in the realm of "Yes"/"No". After trying for couple of days to at least get something out of her, I gave up as she clearly didn't want to speak with person unknown to her. Looking at this now, it situation reminds me of various dating app screenshots where one person is clearly not interested in having a discussion.

So I guess if you don't want to hurt their feelings and come out as a ****, you might want to stick to one-line-answers to her questions. Or be a ****, I dunno. 🤷‍♀️

Well, in my indecision, I didn't respond, so I guess I'm in the **** category. Now enough time has passed, that any response would probably be weird; although it has been a holiday week.
