Done!
There are actually quite a few REALLY fast nvme drives for half the price, seems everyone's prices have been falling except Samsung.
The speed difference real world is nothing on anything with transfers over 2000, probably even 1500, this is doubly true on older hardware. Just stick to decent brands and ALWAYS check the transfer speeds.
Looks like Tiger is out of stock now. I did get an order in earlier today. We'll see. I was in the market so (potentially) happy to have come across this thread.
TIL TigerDirect is still a thing

Western Digital 3rd Gen SN750 1TB + Heatsink for $99.99
This is only 10-15% slower than 970 Pro/ Evo Plus. @ HALF the price ...
Deal forums speculate it may be a price mistake, or maybe it's only the 500gb version. But the order form says 1TB, so you can get your money back if that's the case.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/RSB9WCf.gif)
My TD order is "Pending Review"...

3 SSDs each bigger than all the SSDs I've ever bought added together. Faster too, and, I think, cheaper than my biggest. And they will be used for ... storing movies?!Each is probably transfers faster than all of your transfer rates combined as well.

Won't matter once bottlenecked by gigabit ethernet.
If you think the ssds are expensive, go look at 10gbe switch prices.
Probably, I've had 9 SSDs that I can think of but small ones are always slower :)) Can't say I've looked at the speed of these because I don't have a problem waiting a couple of seconds for my system to boot (Linux on SATA SSD) so there's no point getting a faster drive. 10GB/$ is not expensive though, it's peanuts. I only got ~1.3GB/$ iirc and can remember the days of >£1/GB for a 7200rpm HDD.
I still think M.2 is overkill for storage even if you do have 10gbe, unless you plan to do a backup over the network. Not even tp4 has enough monitors/computers to saturate it just watching stuff.

Deez SSD s00pa fast orange, Tp4 highly recommend.
My next build will probably use m.2 but it should also use DDR5...Expect around 3 years before it's mainstream and I don't expect massive gains.
I'm sure they are, but the only time I transfer gigabytes of data is when swapping the music (wav files) on an SD card and they're on par with a spinny HDD at best :))

I'm not looking, nothing wrong with my 4790HQ for browsing and scribbling on PCBs to help newbies which is paetty much all I do these days especially with no windows from January. Well, I would be doing that if there were more newbies with problems and I had a brain capable of troubleshooting...My next build will probably use m.2 but it should also use DDR5...Expect around 3 years before it's mainstream and I don't expect massive gains.
If you can get a deal on something decent (6+ cores 8th gen Intel or 2nd gen Ryzen) in the next year or two, take it. It will last you a long time.
Loved my gold Sony Minidisc, one of the best before Net(?)MD compressed version. Can you even buy discs now or do they live forever?the only time I transfer gigabytes of data is when swapping the music (wav files) on an SD card and they're on par with a spinny HDD at best :))
Tp4 only uses Sony Minidisc 4 mobile music. The only proper digital source.
