Title: Eight Years Later (and a repair question)
Post by: Evie on Thu, 05 December 2019, 22:43:31
Hi, longtime intermittent lurker here. I made an account 8 1/2 years ago and only just now realized that I'd never actually posted. From the very beginning, this struck me as such a cool community. It's also amazing how much has changed in that time, e.g. the availability of custom keycaps. Browsing the forums back then led me to my first mechanical keyboard--a Filco Majestouch tenkeyless.

A couple days ago I had my first serious trouble with the Filco, and in looking for a solution I found myself intensively browsing the forums again and lusting after everyone's nice boards.

So I have a repair question, but I'm not sure where it'd be appropriate to post, nor sure that the topic hasn't already been covered somewhere here. (Searches so far have turned up some related info but not enough for me to understand what's up).

In brief, my ASDF keys suddenly stopped working. Removing the case and thoroughly cleaning everything didn't solve the problem. A micrometer shows no current between the contact spots on the circuit board when these keys are depressed, unlike all the other keys. There's no visible damage and all the solder spots look good. I'm wondering if the controller or one of its connections is damaged. I'm a novice not only with keyboards but with electronics in general, and I can't for the life of me figure out where the circuits go or which connections might be relevant.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts or any suggestions about where to look for help. Whether or not I can fix my beloved board, just a couple days of browsing already has me diving headfirst back into the keyboard world. Nice to finally introduce myself to you all, and so glad this place is going stronger than ever.
