Title: How do you have your "Spare key" Mapped?
Post by: Harry_Y on Sun, 13 June 2010, 19:40:18
I have a spare key on my keyboard and I have it mapped as:

Spare = Mute

How do you have your "Spare key" Mapped?

For the media controls, I use Alt, plus the numpad arrows. For example, Alt + 8 is volume up, Alt + K is volume down, U and O are previous and next, and I is play/pause.

I like it!

Re mapping now :)

edit

Now I'm at:

Spare = Mute

Alt Up = Vol up
Alt Down = Vol Down
Alt Left = Previous
Alt Right = Next

I'm sure this will change :)

CAPS -> L CTRL (obviously)
L CTRL -> MODE_LOCK (see below)
R CTRL -> SUPER (used for window manager key mapping, so they don't conflict with anything else)

MODE_LOCK + stuff : see here (includes xmodmap config) (http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=156889&postcount=28)

I should probably explain that this layout (except for CAPS -> CTRL) is mostly due to the lack of modifiers on the model M.

An Extend key that unlocks a whole new layout of multimedia keys, navigation and more.
