Title: Adding bluetooth and led's to a Plum87 without either
Post by: tedstriker on Sun, 29 December 2019, 13:00:14
I have ordered it and it's on its way. I have been searching for quite a while and I haven't been able to figure out if this was possible or not. I'm good at soldering and taking stuff apart and putting it back together. I also have an Arduino Uno rev 3, a sensor shield, and an allo sparky which is this thing

https://allo.com/sparky/sparky-sbc.html

I also enjoy making new things out of stuff that is laying around.

I started with a drevo caliber with brown switches and am currently using a chattering tesoro gram spectrum that I will be returning.

I'm also planning on trying out 55g domes and looking into alternative keycaps.

Are there any other mods I could do? I really like it when I have a reason to solder.

Could I make a totally new keyboard with the other components I have?

Edit: For bluetooth I know of the sciencetools 35$ adapter. I wanted to try and do a cheaper route though by doing this

and also housing the board and battery inside the keyboard

No mods exist for this keyboard to make the options possible you want. I know there is not one with RGB and bluetooth in one. But i think its the best you just buy the Bluetooth version if wireless is that important for you.

?

The old versions of the plum 87 definitely have rgb. So the question is do ec switches on the non-rgb version have a place for led's, and are there different controllers in the rgb and non-rgb versions? It doesnt seem to make sense to make two different controllers due to economies of scale, but I could be wrong.

I wanted to do this for fun and to see if i could. its definitely possible. may not be cost effective, but meh.

Im just gonna get the BT-500. I know theres enough space in the case for it and a battery. I'm definitely gonna strip it ( even the usb headers ) and attach directly with wires.

I’ve been searching for a BT adapter like that. Is that able to be housed inside a board with enough space and a battery?

yes check these two links. well it depends on which keyboard you have and how much extra space there is in the case.
