Title: IBM 76X0100
Post by: hactar on Mon, 20 January 2020, 23:02:31
There's another IBM 76X0100 on Ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/391892987384).  Has anyone got one of these to work with a computer?  The seller sent me a closeup of the port, and it appears to be SDL, same as my Model M.  If so, I could use the same cord.  Is it actually SDL with the standard pinout, though?  And does it actually produce standard keycodes?  I'm not willing to drop $90 on a "maybe".

While I can't comment on if anyone has ever gotten one to work with a modern PC,

I can comment on the SDL port not accepting merely any SDL cord you stick in it.

I've seen more than a few posts of someone buying a Model M, and then decided to buy a much older Black plastic SDL cord from an older M to "improve" the look, and then finding out that they don't work.

I wish I had access to a resource that would neatly explain which keyboards accepted which SDL's, but more than likely, the only SDL's that will probably work on it will be cords from that era (Span of 2-4 years), and that is still a pretty big shot to take.

I'll hang around though to see if anyone has any ideas, This would be possibly the coolest macro keyboard I've ever seen by far.

That would indeed be unfortunate.  More data is needed.

Oh, I looked up prices on replacement on ebay for SDL cords (before I read this).  A straight new one is $24, but if you want a coiled one it's going to be NOS and that'll run you $80.  Wrapping the cord with electrical tape is becoming significantly more attractive.
