Title: Topre Realforce 87u silent or non silent?
Post by: xtec on Sun, 26 January 2020, 07:44:02
Hi everyone,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a topre realforce 87u but I haven't decided yet on which one exactly.

- The uniform 55g how is it in terms of stiffness? do the switches feel similar to mx clears or lighter?

- It's for office use, I can get the silent model but in variable weight only. Just how much is the difference in terms of sound? It's an open office so I guess I should be fine with the non silent model. Any experience?

Well with weight is more preference i enjoy 45G Topre more then 55G. And i used a non silent HHKB in a open office and yeah it's as loud a laptop keyboards or your average rubber dome keyboard maybe even bit more silent. All good no need for a silent version.

Non silent topre will be fine in an office environment...obviously silent would even even better...

If you get a non-silent RF, look at getting the PBT spacebar...it really helps keep some of the clanking of the stabilizer down a bit...that's the only noisy part I'd be even slightly concerned about...

55g are sharp and stiff..They're different than clears....Technically it requires more force to overcome the tactile bump..but because you have momentum and a lower starting force, to me they feel lighter than 55g Topre where the force is all up front and then drops off completely....

A good way to look at it is MX Reds vs 45g Topre...by the time you bottom out you're at close to or around 60g....but 45g Topre are "heavier" than MX Reds IMO....

With a decent bit of typing or proximity to others, do consider getting the silenced. It works very well and not a few people prefer it to the standard.

Perhaps it's because my first HHKB was a Pro 2 Type-S, but I clearly prefer the silenced version. To me the thocks drown in clacks on the non-silenced versions.

I would get non-silent. Topre is pretty much quiet enough for office anyway.
I prefer 55g, but many people prefer 45g for longer typing sessions.
