Title: MX Battleship
Post by: jrwr on Fri, 31 January 2020, 11:07:06
Howdy, I'm new to the scene and I like the layout of my Unicomp PC122

I wanted to see if there had been work done to make a custom board using that layout before? Def want to go with MX Clears with RGB All the way,

I can't find much on 6 row keyboards. Any suggestions would be great!

I would just hunt one of these down and desolder the switches. No RGB though. I would also prefer just getting an F122 to any of it though.

There may be more. Chyros has a lot of videos on Youtube of battleship boards.

Doesn't have 24 numbered function keys, but does have 2 numeric pads, 4 rotary encoders, and so much more.

That's actually pretty cool.

I agree, I like the look of big boards, and this is no exception. The 2 numpads is a little weird... but I still like the look of it. Symmetrical, and serves both right and left hand users.

Oh wow, I love that keyboard you linked, its a monster!

I've made a design in KLE (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/##@@_y:0.5&x:3.25%3B&=F1&=F2&=F3&=F4&=F5&=F6&=F7&=F8&=F9&=F10&=F11&=F12%3B&@_x:3.25%3B&=F1&=F2&=F3&=F4&=F5&=F6&=F7&=F8&=F9&=F10&=F11&=F12%3B&@_y:0.25&a:7%3B&=&=&_x:0.25&a:4%3B&=%C2%AC%0A%60&=!%0A1&=%22%0A2&=%C2%A3%0A3&=$%0A4&=%25%0A5&=%5E%0A6&=%2F&%0A7&=*%0A8&=(%0A9&=)%0A0&=%2F_%0A-&=+%0A%2F=&_w:2%3B&=Backspace&_x:0.25%3B&=Insert&=Home&=PgUp&_x:0.25%3B&=Num%20Lock&=%2F%2F&=*&=-%3B&@_a:7%3B&=&=&_x:0.25&a:4&w:1.5%3B&=Tab&=Q&=W&=E&=R&=T&=Y&=U&=I&=O&=P&=%7B%0A%5B&=%7D%0A%5D&_x:0.25&w:1.25&h:2&w2:1.5&h2:1&x2:-0.25%3B&=Enter&_x:0.25%3B&=Delete&=End&=PgDn&_x:0.25%3B&=7%0AHome&=8%0A%E2%86%91&=9%0APgUp&=+%3B&@_a:7%3B&=&=&_x:0.25&a:4&w:1.75%3B&=Caps%20Lock&=A&=S&=D&=F&=G&=H&=J&=K&=L&=%2F:%0A%2F%3B&=%2F@%0A'&=~%0A%23&_x:2.5%3B&=%E2%86%91&_x:1.25%3B&=4%0A%E2%86%90&=5&=6%0A%E2%86%92&_a:7%3B&=%3B&@=&=&_x:0.25&a:4&w:1.25%3B&=Shift&=%7C%0A%5C&=Z&=X&=C&=V&=B&=N&=M&=%3C%0A,&=%3E%0A.&=%3F%0A%2F%2F&_w:2.75%3B&=Shift&_x:0.25%3B&=%E2%86%90&_a:7%3B&=&_a:4%3B&=%E2%86%92&_x:0.25%3B&=1%0AEnd&=2%0A%E2%86%93&=3%0APgDn&_h:2%3B&=Enter%3B&@_a:7%3B&=&=&_x:0.25&a:4&w:1.5%3B&=Ctrl&_x:1&w:1.5%3B&=Alt&_a:7&w:6.75%3B&=&_a:4&w:1.75%3B&=Alt&_x:1&w:1.5%3B&=Ctrl&_x:1.25%3B&=%E2%86%93&_x:1.25&w:2%3B&=0%0AIns&=.%0ADel) that is a close match (key spacing and layout, I do really love that arrow key arraignment)

I plan on making a PCB for it sometime today, KiCad of course. I plan on posting it here once I'm done

Wait a minute... where's the space? I can only see 1u keys on the bottom.

Here's one project. I don't know anything about the project or how successful but I have seen a GH122 PCB for sale in the classifieds a couple of times.

4 different space options:

Nice, giant space bars never made any sense anyway. I always end up hitting it with the same thumb, near the center, every single time. It may as well be 1u.

And that, my friend, is how the split space came to be. :)

Signature Plastics 2U POS caps are what I use as Space Bars, allows for more 1U switches I can hit with my thumbs.

Its a shame the PCB Design files where never published for the GH-122 -- Would love to have one printed my own.
