Title: Feasibility of building own keyboard

Hey,
I recently got access to a makerspace with a Tormach 3-axis CNC and a laser cutter. I've been thinking about building my own keyboard and it'd be nice to save some money if I can make the case myself.

Ideally, I'd like to have an aluminum plate. But, as someone with no experience with CNCs or CAD, how feasible would it be for me to use the Tormach to mill a plate?
I have used a laser cutter before. Should I stick to using acrylic/polycarbonate instead and just laser cut the plate and case?

The skills to design and create something on a CNC machine take a lot of time & focus to cultivate. You might have to put all your side projects on hold and just dedicate yourself to that domain for a year or so. The learning curve is real.

That being said... A switch plate might be the simplest way to start. Then maybe a tray-mount case.
