Title: Hi from Hawaii! Questions on group buys?
Post by: ninja661 on Wed, 12 February 2020, 07:20:35
I'm interested in some of the boards I've seen in the interest check board.  Specifically these two:

Problem is I have no idea where to even begin.  It seems like not many of each board will be made and am wondering what would be the best way to prepare myself to get in line for these boards?  I'm also new to the hobby and am unsure how much these boards would cost.  These boards are also DIY kits right?  I would need to build them myself?  Or do they come assembled?  Do they come with all the pieces I will need to complete the build, excluding tools?  Would really appreciate some guidance here.  Am excited to learn more!  Thanks!

Hey there, I just signed up for the Evolv as well. In the reddit thread the designer says to pay attention to the geekhack thread and Group buy will be announced in the future as well as updates. As far as how that goes? Idk. I'm also new to the space, but from what I've seen on other sites, and from other threads for gb's you basically add your name and contact info to a spreadsheet, then you're probably contacted and given a paypal invoice or something.

The designer on reddit said the Evolv would be close to $1000 for the case. All of these are DIY, you'll have to buy keycaps and probably a PCB as well as switches... idk about the pcb though, but you'll definitely have to buy the switches and caps that you want. You'll have to solder the switches to the board etc. That's what makes all this so fun and addicting :)

I think this board will be so hype that it'll be tough to get though. We also have plenty of time to figure out exactly how to get it.

Good luck my dude.
