Title: Smilies parser... puleeeeaze...
Post by: keyb_gr on Sat, 19 June 2010, 18:15:48
Oh almighty site admin, :hail:

is there the slightest chance of doing anything about the sad state of smilies round here?

At present, there is no support for automatic parsing of the very most basic smilies like:
:) :-) ;) ;-) :( :-( :D :O
Pretty sad for a keyboard forum.

On top of that, the smilie picking dropdown box is an ergonomic nightmare (*) that only shows a few at a time and where finding something in particular takes AGES. (A classic grid with TITLEs tends to limit sizes but generally makes better use of space.)

I don't think the intent was keeping the smilie density low (which is the case at the moment).

*) Not a diplomat, sorry.

Pfft, the fact that we're in a keyboard forum is all the more reason to not have it automatically parse the emoticons into graphical form. =P I love text only emotes.

It does seem odd having to go in to advanced editing mode to get at the smilies.

You just memorize what you need to type in for that particular smilie thing.

Why emoticons, when you can just embed youtube videos?

Actually I like having a choice between text and graphic smilies.
