Title: Biphasic sleep
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 24 February 2020, 12:50:17
Updaght::

Think it's wurkn'.. ??

Tp4 has been sleeping @ 7:30, wakes up ~ 11:30, watch mewvie 3hr30min, back2bed @ 3am, wake up 7:00am morning. Feel refreshed.

NE1 try this.

Basically, < in practical terms >

You get home,  eat,  as soon as it goes dark ~7pm,  you go to bed, wake up around 11-1 am, do some stuff (your choice), go back to sleep wake up @ 6am for wurk.

Seems legit.. since electricity is rather unnatural.

It already takes me 1-2 hours to fall asleep, most of the time not actually falling asleep at all. Getting up sets you in motion, and there's about a 0% chance I'd be able to fall back into a resting state after 2 hrs of activity.

nah i think that's dumb, i think some people claim they can function like this, but i don't want to mess with my circadian rhythm and also turn into some weirdo on a freak schedule. i just go for 8 hours of quality sleep and call it good

It's not uncommon though.  Before electricity, Everyone did this. It's well documented historically. Even today in very budget rural villages, this is still how they live. sleep @ sundown.

Whatever circadian rhythm we have now, it's compensatory for the disturbance OF Electricity.

Not saying this will give you super powers.. but it seems interesting.

I tried the Uberman in college, but it didn't work out. I don't think I gave it enough of a chance though, you are supposed to sustain it for like 2 months before it's 100% effective and I gave it about 2 weeks.

By Biphasic,  I'm talking about the 2 times a night iteration, not the  Siesta version.. on this chart it's the biphasic ted

Why on earth does it have 9 hours for monophasic?  That's a lot of sleep.  Meanwhile uberman is only two hours fourty?  That sounds worthy of the name but surely not many people can function on that little even if they never had to do anything that takes more than a couple of hours.  Then again if you didn't have much to do you wouldn't get tired doing it and could sleep less...

Working constant late shift means bed at sunset means trying biphasic is not an option.  The closesst I could do would be coming home, eating and going to sleep now (midnight) then get up 4-6 but with the rest of the house/street asleep it's not like I could do anything useful so I'd may as well stick with my standard two to nine-ish

some of that stuff is just weird. and we don't have large scale references for them.

But for biphasic both the siesta and ted version are well documented.

I mean, if I could do this and still feel rested the next day... I would be down to do it.

Sleep is a *****.
Used to sleep like 4 hours a night for weeks before I had a hard reset night of 12 hours+

It felt great even if I was on battery-saving mode all the time.

Now that I sleep a normal 6-7 hours a night, I feel like **** the nights I don't get enough sleep.
Getting old I suppose...

Don't worry, I have worse addictions than coffee. Food is really killing me.
I only drink one in the morning, then drink tea. Nothing special, but I like to have one, nice flavor, low acid.

Sleeping 7-8.5 hours a night is fine for everyone. Don't try biphasic or polyphasic sleep patterns! Let your body fall asleep and stay asleep!

Interesting read, thanks for that :thumb:

So, lots of people home at the moment - anyone trying biphasic or any of the other crazy options mentioned in this thread?

Considering how bad life is for people who don't get enough sleep I suspect it's best avoid experimentation. I sleep like a log and I suspect that's from good habits. Maybe it's just genetic my father has to set alarms get up twice a night to empty stoma and he goes right back to sleep doesn't find it disruptive.

Exactly - you don't want to be messing with this stuff when you have a life to lead but if people really are going to have to spend months at home why not?  I know I would be even though I too sleep like a log and rarely need an alarm (I set one for morning appointments but usually wake up before it)
