Hi,
I'm trying to design another of the many ergo split keyboards, and at the moment I'm just throwing random ideas at it.
This isn't intended to be anything particularly serious, I'm new to the hobby and I'm doing this in my spare time because I find it fun and interesting.
This (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/##@_name=%5BWIP%5D%20boh&author=Alessandro%20Marinoni¬es=Forte%20indecisione%20sulla%20altezza%20della%20colonna%202%2F:%20potrei%20volerla%20alzare%20di%200.375u.%0A%0AAltezza%2F:%207.2u%20%2F=%2013,68%20cm%3B&@_x:4.5&a:7%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.75&x:3.5%3B&=&_x:1%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.99&x:1.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.88&x:6.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.3799999999999999&x:4.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.75&x:1&w:1.5%3B&=&=&=&_x:1%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.8700000000000001&x:6.5%3B&=&=%3B&@_y:-0.3799999999999999&x:4.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.75&x:2.5%3B&=&=&_x:1%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.9900000000000002&x:0.75&w:1.75%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.8799999999999999&x:6.5%3B&=&_h:1.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.3799999999999999&x:4.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.75&x:2.5%3B&=&=&_x:1%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.9900000000000002&x:1.25&w:1.25%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.8799999999999999&x:6.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.3799999999999999&x:4.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.75&x:2.5%3B&=&=%3B&@_y:-0.9900000000000002&x:1.25&w:1.25%3B&=%3B&@_y:-0.009999999999999787&x:2.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:1.9499999999999993&x:11.08%3B&=%3B&@_r:15&rx:6.5&ry:5&y:-0.5&x:-0.8700000000000001&w:1.25%3B&=%3B&@_r:30&rx:7.5&ry:4.5&y:-0.5&h:1.5%3B&=&_h:1.5%3B&=%3B&@_y:0.5%3B&=&=) is what I came up with as the layout. Here's also a document with both sides which should produce a 1:1 picture when printed (https://mega.nz/#!engDxJbD!VHF6wuna5De3bL8mklYD_hFMnlng-im7XsAxMfEUSH8).

Now the question is: what should I add? The outline is still not defined, so anything really should be possible at this point. I would please need your advice on what to place, and most importantly where.
I was thinking of a rotary encoder and a OLED display on each side, which is pretty standard compared to some other projects; I would prefer a 128x64 one, but as you can see it's quite hard to place as its PCB is way too big.... Also, if you've got other ideas too I'd be glad to listen!
Again, here's the picture: I know it looks like **** but my current skills stop at using Paint, so this is really the best I could do (hey, at least everything is 1:1). And again, I just threw there some basic ideas and now I'm looking for your more experienced opinions.

Lastly, I have question about people who actually have and use ergo keyboards: what do you think of this layout? Any suggestions?
I'm particularly interested in hearing about the thumb cluster, as I know it's one of the most problematic things.
Keep in mind that the whole layout is thought to be fully usable with a single standard GMK (or KAT or whatever else sculped set) base kit.
I could also add two more keys (at the cost of having a single R3 keycap on R4) so to have a standard arrow section, but I have mixed feelings about this because of aesthetics and actual usability...
Here's how it would look: (http://i.imgur.com/4cYb9X2t.png) (https://imgur.com/4cYb9X2)
This is all. I'm really looking forward to hearing some thoughts, so that I'll soon be able to prototype the first PCBs!
