Standard Ms have been fetching a lot more than usual lately:
$228 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330444471102)
$249 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330444474293)
$385 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270578326554)
Standard grey labels have now displaced minis as the most valuable models.
-
Yeah I noticed that...
Sheesh... $300 for a model M? The world has gone crazy. Someone needs to find a stash of Model Ms in a warehouse to reduce the prices again.
-
Not NIB. Not this late in time. NIB is a lie.
-
I didn't notice the Japanese shipping note. I'll put that one in my bag of tricks as well.
Crazy bidding sure, but it's a new phenomenon to see it directed towards standard 1401s.
Not NIB. Not this late in time. NIB is a lie.
NIB just means new in box. I suppose to be perfectly honest they should be listed as NOS, but most people get the idea.
-
Someone should go buy from ClickeyKeyboard and have profitable turn-around. You can also order some labels from Unicomp old stock (the Black labels with raised metallic lettering looks very nice too).
-
Clicky only has lexmarks nib which in many peoples minds are less desirable. Even if you think the quality is the same, the earlier boards made by IBM that are in their boxes are considerably more rare. So that will affect their value considerably.
-
? This guy even let you cut the strap tape. Whooopeee!
I sold a strapping old keyboard like that last year.
Luckily I have a growing cache of spare boxed Ms.
-
I know the reason behind $300 Model M's.
It's Japanese people.
-
I don't know if you quite got it.
Black Japanese watermelon sold at record price (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/06/black-japanese-watermelon_n_105787.html)

They say the Japanese economy has gone down the drain, makes one wonder about the rest of the World.
I don't know if you quite got it.
Lucky that you explained, else someone would come on and call you brainless names again
Chinese Whispers are not easily washed away.

Yeah but "new" also means not used.
The label on that has obvious splatter stains on it. I mean, come on. NIB is a lie.
-
I see things like that all the time on labels, probably came from the factory that way.
-
Huh I don't see those dots on any labels in my crate of *used* Model Ms nor on my *new* Space Saving boards.
Whatever.
-
I'm quite happy with my used one. It has character :D
-
Mine has a blue dot and a black dot in the top right corner =p
-
Somebody create a Wiki and a n-variate database so we can crack the code on this.
I think I cracked the code:
never give children a bunch of felt pens in a model M factory.
These coloured dots seem completely random; both in colour and areas placed. Why would you even need to do that? Why did IBM make so many variations? Why did IBM need all of these crazy labelling techniques? Why why why!?!? Even the key caps themselves have ambiguous letters and numbers in them.
-
Oh man, I'm tearing into my keyboard storage to examine dots.
I'm sure it's a quality control check. Back in the day humans used to test things.
