Title: Geekhack blacklisted IP
Post by: _rubik on Sat, 04 April 2020, 12:07:43: Oh boy, that got the heart racing. I sat down at my computer, fired up the VPN, attempted to log on to Geekhack, and got a notification that I've been banned. :eek: :eek:

A million question ran through my mind. Is it my VPN? Turned off VPN, and logged on just fine. Phew :confused:

What are the odds that we've blacklisted certain IPs. Obviously, this happens with VPNs from time to time, but I've never seen this on Geekhack before. Is this new?

Post by: suicidal_orange on Sat, 04 April 2020, 12:49:08: There are lots of banned IPs and it's not unusual for more than one to be added each day due to spam accounts. There are also some which belonged to banned members perhaps years ago so if you get unlucky you could get one of them following a power cut (at least in the UK we're generally still not on static IPs...) - if in doubt try another device/connection.

Also see the sticky in announcements (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=57803.0). Not sure if it still applies, would be good to know if it doesn't so it can be updated :thumb:

That's exactly what I ended up doing: cleared cookies and switched VPN regions. Everything is hunky dory. This is the problem with large VPN provides, I guess.
