Title: Thoughts on Movies ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 13 April 2020, 15:19:29
Now that theaters are closed; and prolly for a long time sane peeps will avoid them even if reopened.

The only other Premium-film product is 4K Blurays.

Instead of going to the movies, people'll have to have dates @ home, shelling out for the 4K disc, the Large TV, Sound System, and Deepfrying skills.

Where do y'all think it's headed ?

This would suddenly put you in a very advantageous position, right?

From the thread title I thought that you were either asking for suggestions or wondering what people were watching.

Personally, I am watching everything from weird old 1950s black and white like Fellini movies and Twilight Zone all the way up to Star Trek Picard and Homeland, and in between. It is kind of refreshing to bounce around and hit all the edges.

You just set the disk on the router antennae and it sends it over wifi.

It will really suck if AMC shuts down. I don't go to the movies often, perhaps 2-4 times a year, but those are memorable moments.

I think it is inevitable, since what the modern human really wants is to have everything brought to their doorstep without them having to work too hard, leave their home, or interact with strangers. Technology makes things more convenient, but at the same time makes people inherently more lazy. And while people claim they want more options and independence, what they really mean is they want to be coddled and bottle fed so as to put in as little effort on their end as possible.

Mostly remakes, re-imaginings and comic book based super heroes.
Many of the "new" stories you see are actually remakes of foreign films and the more money they spend on it the more likely it's one of the above.

There is also rapidly changing monetization of films.

It used to be theater tickets,  then we had the early onset of drug money / south america / money laundering.

TODAY, it's mostly black money from China that is coming in, again money laundering.

We also have a lean on movie advertising, notice Ironman drives Audi.

So, honestly, don't worry about big Hollywood.

Support the small movies for sure,   the big ones, one can be liberal.

It's the exact same thing with the gaming industry. Gone are the '00s where devs would put out unique and original IP's, now it's one sequel(or pre) or remake after another. Really depressing.
