Just wanted to start a thread for people to post various ideas for layouts for custom keyboards.
-
split ortho 5x7s with thumb clusters.

My two are both inspired by the Austin (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=100883.0):
The first is just an Austin without any key separation - it's pretty much a 96-key-style layout with a 2u numpad "0" key and a couple extra keys, including two additional programmable keys P1 and P2, at the cost of being 1u wider as a whole. The Home/End/PgUp/PgDn layout is basically from a 65%, and should work with most GMK base kits (I would personally prefer R3 PgUp and R4 PgDn to put them next to the arrow keys, but those are not keys that are included in base kits).

The second is an idea for a compact 122-key, also derived somewhat from the Austin layout. This would have 18-additional programmable keys over a typical full-size. This also has the advantage of having a traditional 2x3 Ins/Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn block similar to those on tenkeyless and traditional full-size boards. I intend to design this keyboard over the next couple months.

interesting.... not too many large custom boards.
truthfully, i won't go back to a staggered layout (but that's just me). maybe a columnar stagger but definitely ortho.

This would be my dream layout. Stick a nice gold pencil tray across the top and we're golden ;)

Here's a few more I think would be cool

Here are a few of mine:
[attachimg=1]
The staggered Ergo (no heresy here)
- ergo form with stagger keys
[attachimg=2]
The VE.A clone
- 4 green buttons on the left can be replaced with a rotary encoder
- vertical 2u button (Delete), because why not
[attachimg=3]
The "southpaw all the ways"
- yep
-
I was about to start building it when I moved so it's in limbo at the moment while I find a way forward.
