I was a little bit surprised not to see that kind of modification in karabiner, so I decided to add it.
https://ke-complex-modifications.pqrs.org/#caps_tenkey_mode
So when you push CapsLock first time it enables tenkey, when you press it ones again it disables tenkey. Exactly the way how NumLock works.
Probably it is not really ergonomic, but I've just started using it and it goes good so far. Any opinion on that?

The numpad arrangement is similar to what I do (https://github.com/stevep99/keyboard-tweaks/tree/master/AltGr), except mine is activated via AltGr. Plus I also have brackets and other common programming characters on the left side as well.
