Title: Das II keyboard
Post by: elbowglue on Thu, 01 July 2010, 18:34:16
http://cgi.ebay.com/Das-Keyboard-Blank-Computer-Keyboard-/160449992955?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item255b9098fb#ht_2151wt_930

*** EDIT this appears to be a Das I which is a keytronic keyboard, sorry for the confusion ***

(It's a rebranded g80-3000 with blue cherries and blank keys.  PCB mounted.  I would probably pay max of $66 shipped for this, as the g80-3000LSCRC-2 was $67 shipped when it was available for purchase.)

The seller has no idea what he is doing too:

Most keyboards use a standard 55 grams of force required to register every key, Das Keyboard has 5 different levels of force. The keys are divided into groups and their feedback springs are weighted differently; from 35 grams to 80 grams, which correspond to the strength of the finger that touches the keys. The result is more comfort for your hands.

Might want to be careful, I think that the pictures in the ebay ad (below) are of an original DAS, not the DAS II.  Might be the wrong pictures but be careful.

Ut-oh, that's the original rubber dome Key Tronic keyboard with custom black color and a DAS label slapped on it.  If you're looking for clicky snobbishness, this isn't that keyboard.

Save your money and get a $6 Key Tronic ivory and spray-paint it black.

So, it's "high-quality", I better go get it huh?

Or...

Buy 9 of these same keyboards in white (http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?id=865362) for the same cost as the starting bid of this and paint them black, or purple or whatever as aegrotatio suggested,

Or maybe do neither.  I am seriously considering some of the pacific geek $4.99 white key tronic keyboards through, for RIT dye experiments if nothing else.

If I take that pacific geek $4.99 keyboard and strip the white out of it, looks kinda familiar?

Honestly, though, for "membrane" rubber dome keyboards, Key Tronics are still possibly the best bang-for-the-buck keyboard.  I'm saying you can get the same thing for way much less without the blank key gimmick.

Which is exactly why I'm considering picking up some of those white Key Tronic boards to use in some dye experiments.  Could be a lot of fun with the kids for example maybe make a purple board for my daughter,.  Cheap enough to trash if it goes wrong and decently usable if it works.
