Title: Going 2 the movies ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Fri, 19 June 2020, 12:34:01
So, AMC reopens in some places.

Now, here's the thing. If we know the korona droplets can remain in the air for several hours, and can Travel as far as 25-30 feet in a sneeze / cough,  What good is social distancing in ANY enclosed space such as a theater ?

Not only that, but it's summer, so the AC is running, designed to circulate air thoroughly *stirring*  the room. It's basically a korona blender.

Televisions have exceeded Theater performance spec <in visuals> since ~2006

Theaters will have bigger sound, but meh...

I still like them generally but sitting in a big public space with air con now is madness.  Don't they realise if they kill their customers they wont come back?

Big fan of movie theaters.  I have one very close to me with a new large screen wing added just this year.  Leather seats that recline.  Lots of leg room.  No way in hell I'll go back to the movie theater in the next year, maybe ever.

I only go to the movies about 3-4x a year and only when I have free tickets, so I selfishly say 'no change on my end'

I don't think traditional theater chains will be around much longer, frankly. Sad to say it because I feel like going out to see a movie is part of the culture, but all things come to an end eventually. People are scared of their own shadows these days, super lazy, and selfish, so the idea they would pay to leave their home and share in a community experience is becoming less and less likely.

TV calibration is going to be critical for best presentation, but the matter of getting a guy to come to your house, who goes to alot of other people's houses..

WHICH MEANS.  DIY Calibration will rule the land.

Cineplex backed out of the deal and are apparantly purusing legal action..

When it opens, i'll be going to landmark instead. they have foot rests, and good customer service
