Hello Geekhack community,

Since this is my very first IC and being relatively new to the keyboard community, I think I should introduce myself. My name is Arthur, also known as KoolAidPapa or KAP for short. I am a recent mechanical engineering graduate that is currently employed by a large defense manufacturer as a systems engineer. My interest in keyboards started Christmas of 2018 when my brother-in-law gifted me a Ducky One 2 mini. Only until late 2019 did those interests really blossom. I have been exposed 3D modeling since high school and have been using different software pretty consistently since then, mostly using SolidWorks. Therefore, what better way to express my love for both of my primary hobbies in design/modeling and keyboards than to work on designing my own keyboard cases.

Specs:
- 6.5 degree angle
- 65% Layout
- Custom metal plate included (ISO, Stepped Caps, split backspace and left shift compatible)
- Compatible PCB will be the KBD67rev2, KBD67 mk2 (hotswap/solder), Savage65, Instant65

I'm getting anxiety just from thinking about building that thing hah.

Still, cool looking design.

Not my cup of tea, but definitely interesting design. There are a few aspects I really don't like though:

* The pairs of screws close together in the corners
* The way the case seems to actually sit on the screws
* The extra screws needed to fix together the separate parts of the bottom layers - I'd probably bond them to the layers above with MEK

Also, the render seems to be lacking perspective - the two parallel sides seem to be going away from each other as a result

Anyway, good luck with your project!

There would be bumpers included so it would not sit on the screws. The pairs of screws on the corners are due to the design of the legs underneath so that the bottom-most layers would not pivot. I wanted to keep the corners spherical so changing the shape was something I wanted to avoid. Using some sort of adhesive I would consider, and that would definitely allow me to remove one of the corner screws, but I would have to do some thinking on that, but thank you for the suggestion!

This thing as it sits right now is roughly 1-1/8" high at the front, but can easily be shortened. That has been a common suggestion so far and definitely something I will look into.

Updates: Based on popular suggestions/comments from both here and the reddit IC, I have tweaked the design to lower the overall height of the case. The front height of the case is around 1". This also allowed me to decrease the number of spacers/screws in the design, cut it by 16 screws and 8 spacers for an overall cleaner look. Here are some updated renders and an album link. https://imgur.com/a/i6M9XpR

Thanks for the feedback everyone

I like the changes you made.

I really like the exposed screw look around the keys and it is much cleaner in the corners now.

Plus less thick to be more user friendly.

All good things.

I love this with the SA caps too.

I look forward to more of this.

The shape reminds me of a dog bone.
You should call it the Bone Board... the Bonard...err the Bonar..
