Title: A Beginner asks: for given Geek GK61, Cherry "PCB Mount" or "Mounting Plate" ?
Post by: Riddixk51PB on Thu, 23 July 2020, 16:45:53
Admittedly, I know very little about the subject at hand (no pun intended).  My preference is for something not a "red only" color scheme like i currently have.  So the following is what I'm looking at.  Have no idea if what I'm doing is perilous.  If something in this post is breaking some sort of forum rule, this post can be deleted.

I'm planning on ordering a Geek GK61 (RGB board) with a "PCB Mounting Plate".  It is an "Aluminum-Alloy-Version-Geek-Customized-GK61-Hot-Swappable-60-pencent-RGB-Keyboard-Customized-Kit-PCB-Mounting-Plate.  Warning: Link to KBD Here...Geek GK61 Banggood.com (https://usa.banggood.com/Aluminum-Alloy-Version-Geek-Customized-GK61-Hot-Swappable-60-pencent-RGB-Keyboard-Customized-Kit-PCB-Mounting-Plate-p-1442665.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN)

Q1: The Cherry MX RGB Blue switches are in either "PCB Mount (SKU: MX1A-E1NB [Footnote #2])" or "Mounting Plate (SKU: MX1A-E1NA [Footnote #1])" form.  do you have a suggestion on which switches i should order for this Geek GK61 ?

Q2: What's the difference between cherry mx blue and cherry mx blue RGB ?  the RGB version is with a clear casing, the same otherwise?

Footnotes:
1 CHERRY MX RGB Keyswitch MX1A-E1NA Snap fastening in frame
2 CHERRY MX RGB Keyswitch MX1A-E1NB Fixing pins in the printed circuit board

EDIT: Don't mind me, went ahead and pulled trigger on some mx rgb speed silvers.

Ey yo first off,  make sure to check the price of the same item on aliexpress, banggood almost always mark up their products to cope with their mass advertisement so yeah don't let yourself be ripped off.

Second, for a keyboard with plate like this, either pcb mount switch (5 pins) or plate mount switch (3 pins) work. It used to be the case that hotswap board can not take 5 pin swithc (GMMK comes to mind) back in the days because the hotswap socket was big. But it is no longer the case you dont need to worry about that anymore.

ok i'll check on aliexpress for that kbd.

i cancelled my order on the cherry mx speed silvers.  i'm leaning now toward some Kailh (SP?) BOX Jade switches.  altho i stream occasionally and the click of those might be excessive.  still probly going jade's.
