Title: I wrote Alps Alpine about Alps SKCL/SKCM Switches
Post by: rhubarbpi on Fri, 31 July 2020, 08:58:25
Earlier in the month I posted a thread about the possibility of reviving / recreating Alps SKCM & SKCL switches:

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=107233.msg2926924#msg2926924

The community provided great feedback.

However, before moving forward on any proposed business plans, I wanted to talk to the former company itself:

Why not bring them back, considering the interest in Mechanicals skyrocketing over the past 5-7 years?
Also, they are very much still in the switch market - what is keeping them from being reintroduced?

As of writing, I have not received any response from Alps Alpine after a somewhat longish inquiry.

Has anyone else ever tried to reach out to Alps Alpine or received any particular answer on why SKCL/SKCM's would no longer be produced?

If so, what did they say?

I want some further info before I go hog wild on creations, branding, etc - that being said I DO have some wonderful ideas in store for the future.

Takes too much money to get them started again.
Not enough interest from general market.
New molds need to be made.
Alps not wanting to make them anymore.

Good keycaps also cost too much money to make.
